1 Operating Functions

2 Operating Functions Temperature Parameters
• Room set temperature (T set) • Room ambient temperature (T amb)

3 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions
After powered on, no matter when the compressor is started, the time interval between two startups cannot be less than 3 minutes.

4 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions COOL Mode
The condition and process of cooling • If the indoor ambient temperature is equal to or greater than the room set temperature, COOL mode will act, the compressor and outdoor fan will run, and the indoor fan will run at the set speed . • If the indoor ambient temperature is equal to or lower than 2°F below the room set temperature, the compressor will stop, the outdoor fan will delay 30 seconds to stop, and the indoor fan will run at the set speed . • If the indoor ambient temperature is lower than the room set temperature, yet higher than 2°F below the room set temperature, the unit will keep running in the previous mode. In this mode, the reversal valve will not be powered on and the temperature setting range is 61°F ~ 86°F. The unit will adjust the running frequency of the compressor automatically according to the change of ambient temperature.

5 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions COOL Mode
Anti-freezing protection 1) Under cooling or dehumidify mode, if T indoor tube senor has detect a temperature that is below 32 °F continuously for 3 minutes, the unit will go into freeze protection mode and shut down. Once the unit shut down because of freeze protection, the unit will not restart until T indoor tube sensor is above 42.8 °F. The compressor has to wait at least 3 minutes to restart after shutting down due to freeze protection. 2) Under cooling or dehumidify mode, if T indoor tube senor has detected a temperature that is below 42.8 °F but higher than 32 °F, the compressor may decrease its speed to prevent the temperature to go below 32 °F. 3) If the unit has been shut down six times because of the freeze protection, it will not restart again automatically. Instead, user or service technician needs to completely power off the unit before he/she can try to restart the unit manually. But, once the compressor runs continuously for more than 10 minutes normally (no freeze protection detected), the number of freeze protections will be cleared to zero.

6 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions COOL Mode
Overcurrent protection If total current is high, the compressor will run in limited or dropped frequency. When total current goes on rising over the stated value, the compressor will stop, the outdoor fan will delay 30 seconds, then stop.

7 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions DRY Mode
The condition and process of drying • If the indoor ambient temperature is greater than the room set temperature, DRY mode will act, the indoor fan, outdoor fan and compressor will run, and indoor fan will run at low speed. • If the indoor ambient temperature is lower than the room set temperature, yet higher than 2°F below the room set temperature, the unit will keep running in the original mode. • If the room ambient temperature is lower than 2°F below the room set temperature, the compressor will stop running, the outdoor fan will delay 30 seconds to stop and the indoor fan will run at low speed. In this mode, the reversal valve will not be powered on and the temperature setting range is 61°F ~ 86°F. The unit will adjust the running frequency of the compressor automatically according to the change of ambient temperature.

8 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions DRY Mode Protection
Protection is the same with that in COOL mode.

9 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode
The condition and process of heating • If the indoor ambient temperature is equal to or less than 2°F above room set temperature, HEAT mode will act, the compressor, outdoor fan and 4-way valve will run simultaneously, and the indoor fan will delay up to 2 minutes before running. • If the indoor ambient temperature is lower than 9°F above room set temperature, yet higher than 2°F above room set temperature, the unit will keep running in the original mode. • If the indoor ambient temperature is greater than 9°F above room set temperature, the compressor will stop, the outdoor fan will delay 30 seconds then stop, and the indoor fan will blow for 60 seconds at the original speed and then stop. In this mode, the temperature setting range is 61°F ~ 86°F. The air conditioner will adjust the running frequency of the compressor automatically according to the change of ambient temperature. When the unit is turned off in HEAT mode, or switched to another mode, the 4-way valve will be powered off 2 minutes after the compressor stops.

10 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode
The condition and process of defrosting What parameters have been used in the defrost algorithm? There are two temperatures that basically determine if the system goes into defrost mode or not, and they are Toutdoor ambient and Toutdoor tube. One intermediate parameter, Tcompensation, has also been created and involved in the calculation. Tcompensation can be determined by Toutdoor tube, If Toutdoor tube > 35.6 °F, Tcompensation = 0°F 2) If Toutdoor tube ≤ 35.6 °F, Tcompensation = 5.4°F

11 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode
When will the system go into defrost mode? When the system continuously runs in heating mode for more than 45 minutes or the compressor accumulated run time is more than 90 minutes, the unit will switch to defrost mode under any of the following conditions, 1) Toutdoor ambient ≥ 41 °F, Toutdoor tube ≤ 28.4 °F 2) 28.4 °F > Toutdoor ambient < 41 °F, Toutdoor tube ≤ 21.2 °F 3) 23 °F ≤ Toutdoor ambient < 28.4 °F, Toutdoor tube ≤ 17.6 °F 4) 14 °F ≤ Toutdoor ambient < 23 °F, Toutdoor tube ≤ Toutdoor ambient Tcompensation 5) Toutdoor ambient < 14 °F, Toutdoor tube ≤ Toutdoor ambient Tcompensation Other than these 5 conditions, the system could also switch to defrost mode under the following condition, 6) Toutdoor ambient ≥ 41 °F, compressor has more than 180 minutes accumulated run time, and Toutdoor tube sensor continuously report the temperature is < 32°F for more than 1 minute. Note: Compressor accumulated run time can be cleared to 0 only under the following conditions. • System finished a defrost cycle. • System switched to cooling mode Compressor accumulated run time will NOT be cleared for any other conditions including • System stops running when reaching the set indoor temperature • System stops running for any protection • System switches to fan mode

12 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode
When will the system stop defrost mode? The system will stop defrost cycle if ANY of the following conditions are satisfied 1) Toutdoor tube ≥ 50 °F 2) Defrost cycle reaches maximum defrost set time, typically this value is around minutes and it varies model by model

13 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode
How does each component respond in sequence during a defrost cycle? Once the system determines to run a defrost cycle, first the indoor fan stop running and subsequently the compressor reduces the speed and stops within a minute. The outdoor fan will continue to run for another minute, and then stop. Fifteen seconds later, the switch over valve will switch the position from heating to defrost (or cooling). The compressor starts up again and increases into a relatively high speed to defrost. Once the system determine to exit a defrost cycle, the compressor decreases the speed and stops within a minute. A few seconds later, the switch over valve will switch the position from defrost (or cooling) to heating. After one minute, the compressor will operate again, and subsequently the outdoor fan and indoor fan will return to normal and run in heating mode.

14 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions HEAT Mode Protection
• Overcurrent protection If the total current is high, the compressor will run in limited or dropped frequency. When total current continues rising over the stated value, the compressor will stop, the outdoor fan will delay 30 seconds, then stop.

15 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions FAN Mode
In this mode, the indoor fan will run the fan in High, Med, Low and Auto mode. The compressor, outdoor fan and four-way valve will stop.

16 Operating Functions Fundamental Functions AUTO Mode
In this mode, the system selects COOL, HEAT and FAN mode automatically according to the change of ambient temperature. The protection function is the same with that of COOL/HEAT mode. The unit will adjust the running frequency of the compressor automatically according to the change of ambient temperature.

17 Operating Functions Other Control ON/OFF
Each time the On/Off button of the remote controller is pressed, the On/Off state will switch once.

18 Operating Functions Other Control MODE SELECTION
Press the MODE button on the remote controller to select and display the following modes: AUTO, COOL, DRY, FAN, and HEAT.

19 Operating Functions Other Control TEMP. Setting Button
Each time TEMP+ or TEMP- button is pressed, the set temperature will be increased or decreased by 2°F. Adjusting range is 61°F ~ 86°F. In AUTO mode, this button does not function .

20 Operating Functions Other Control AUTO Key
Press the AUTO key to start the unit. The unit will run in AUTO mode. When the unit is running, press the AUTO key to stop the unit.

21 Operating Functions Other Control Timer Control
The unit is turned on or off according to the timer set by the remote controller.

22 Operating Functions Other Control Sleep Control
When the air conditioner is in COOL or DRY mode, after Sleep mode has been set properly, the preset room set temperature will be increased by 2°F after the sleep program has run for 1 hour. The room set temperature will be increased by another 2°F after 2 hours. The room set temperature has been increased by 4°F total in two hours. The unit will continue to run at this set temperature and at the set speed. When the air conditioner is in HEAT mode, after Sleep mode has been set properly, the preset room set temperature will be decreased by 2°F after the sleep program has run for 1 hour. The room set temperature will be decreased by another 2°F after 2 hours. The room set temperature has now been decreased by 4°F total in two hours. The unit will continue to run at this set temperature and at the set speed. In AUTO or FAN mode, the setting temperature will not change.

23 Operating Functions Other Control Indoor Fan Control
Use the remote control to set the indoor fan to run at HIGH, MED, or LOW speed. It can also be set to AUTO. The indoor unit will select the fan speed (HIGH, MED, or LOW) automatically according to ambient temperature. There are at least 3 minutes and 30 seconds delay for fan speed shift.

24 Operating Functions Other Control Power Supply for Outdoor Unit
The power supply for the outdoor unit is turned on in AUTO, COOL, HEAT, and DRY mode under the turn-on state. The power supply for the outdoor unit will delay 3 minutes to turn off under the turn-off state or in the FAN mode under the turn-on state.

25 Operating Functions Other Control Swing Control
Use the SWING button of the wireless remote control to control SWING On and Off. Swing will only act when the indoor fan is running. After power off, the swing motor turns back to 0 position and closes the air outlet vent. If it does not enter a preset swing mode, after the unit is turned on, it will turn to the maximum air outlet D1 position, then turn back to L position under COOL mode. Under HEAT mode, the guide louver stays at D1. When in a swing mode, it will swing between L1 and D1 position. When the unit is turned off, it will turn back to the 0 position.

26 Operating Functions Other Control Buzzer Control
When the unit is powered on or receives a remote control signal, or the auto key be pressed, the buzzer will give out a beep.

27 Operating Functions Other Control Power-off Memory Function
Contents of memory: Mode; Swing; Set fan speed, Set temperature, Timing etc. Under turn-on state, when powered on, the power supply for the outdoor unit will be turned on after 3 minutes. Under turn-off state, when powered off, the power supply for the outdoor unit will be turned off immediately.

28 Operating Functions Other Control Delay Protection of Compressor
Under COOL, DRY, and HEAT modes, there will be a 3 minute time delay before the compressor starts.

29 Operating Functions Common Protection Function in Each Mode
Overload Protection T tube: In cooling mode, it detects the temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger, in heating mode, it detects the temperature of the indoor heat exchanger. When T tube detects high temperature, the compressor will run in limited frequency. When T tube temperature continues rising over the stated value, the compressor will stop. Under AUTO HEAT or HEAT mode, the indoor fan will blow 60 seconds at low fan speed and then stop. Under other modes, the indoor fan will run at set speed.

30 Operating Functions Common Protection Function in Each Mode
Compressor Discharge Temperature Protection When the discharge temperature is too high over the stated value, the compressor will stop. When the discharge temperature drops to normal and the compressor has stopped for 3 minutes, the unit will resume its original operating status.

31 Operating Functions Common Protection Function in Each Mode
Communication Malfunction When not receiving a correct signal for 3 minutes, the unit has a communication malfunction and the outdoor unit stops. It is the same as a normal stop when meeting the set temperature.

32 Operating Functions Common Protection Function in Each Mode
Module Protection When the module is in protection, the compressor will stop. After the compressor has stopped for 3 minutes, it will resume operation. During the module protection period, the indoor unit displays error code H5 and the entire system stops.
