Don’t Lose Heart Introduction: 2 Corinthians 4 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. (KJV) 2 Corinthians 4 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (NKJV)

1. The original word for faint means to grow weary. To lose enthusiasm and interest in doing God’s will and taking your stand against sin. 2. Luke 18 1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; (KJV)

2 Corinthians 4 1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; (KJV) Galatians 6 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (KJV)

Ephesians 3 13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. (KJV) 2 Thessalonians 3 13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. {be...: or, faint not} (KJV)

Hebrews 12 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (KJV) Hebrews 12 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: (KJV)

3. The old saying, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” 4. What can I do to prevent fainting or losing heart? Surely none of us want to lose heart or faint. 5. We are going to make some observations from 2 Corinthians 4:8-16 which will help us to not lose heart or faint.

I. A strong and vibrant faith. 2 Corinthians 4 8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; (KJV)

2 Corinthians 4 13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; (KJV) Romans 8 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (KJV)

2 Corinthians 5 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:(KJV) Galatians 2 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (KJV)

Galatians 5 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. (KJV) 2 Timothy 1 12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. (KJV)

Do whatever you need to do to make your faith perfect or complete. Is my faith stronger or weaker than it used to be? Dustin’s grandmother, David’s mother, said to him when he told her he wasn’t as close to God as he used to be: She asked, who moved? Have as strong a faith as you can possibly develop.

II. Have a strong hope in our resurrection from the dead. 2 Corinthians 4 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.(KJV)

John 5 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (KJV)

1 Thessalonians 4 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (KJV)

1 Corinthians So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (KJV)

Titus 1 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; (KJV) Hebrews 6 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; (KJV)

III. Spreading the grace of God to God’s glory. 2 Corinthians 4 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. (KJV) Acts But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (KJV)

1 Corinthians 9 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. 24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (KJV)

James 5 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (KJV) You won’t faint or lose heart as long as you are helping the Lord save the souls He died for.

IV. Daily renew the inner man. 2 Corinthians 4 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. (KJV)

Ephesians 3 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (KJV) The inner man includes the mind, the spirit, the heart.

1 Corinthians And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (KJV) Every day is a new day for us and we have a choice to either renew our inner man or to neglect our inner man. I believe if I renew my inner man each day, I will not faint or lose heart. We need to examine ourselves and pray about this every day.

V. The prospect of enjoying an eternal reward in heaven. 2 Corinthians 4 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (KJV)

Romans 8 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (KJV) 2 Corinthians 5 1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (KJV)

Philippians 3 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. (KJV)

Matthew 6 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (KJV)

Conclusion: You won’t lose heart if you: 1. Have a vibrant active faith. 2. Have a strong hope in the resurrection. 3. Have a sincere desire to save lost souls. 4. Daily renew your inward man. 5. Have your heart set on going to be with Christ and all those who are saved in heaven.
