3 MotionBandspeed doc.: IEEE /512r1 Slide 3 November, 2001 AFH Proposal Structure Legacy Hop Selection Kernel Master’s CLK Master’s Address Frequency Re-Mapper (AFH Post Processing) Channel Condition (Good, Bad) Partition Sequence Generator If there are Kept Bad Channels (B K ) Optional

4 MotionBandspeed doc.: IEEE /512r1 Slide 4 November, 2001 Why Partition Sequence should be Optional (1) FCC NPRM and world wide regulations permit use as less as 15 channels. Bad channel usage applies when the number of good channel N G is less than 15. Very rare scenarios If N G < 15, theoretical benefits of intelligent use of bad channels is trivial. But in practice, if N G < 15, making a connection is extremely difficult, let alone implementing AFH.

5 MotionBandspeed doc.: IEEE /512r1 Slide 5 November, 2001 Why Partition Sequence should be Optional (2) Not compatible with Bluetooth SIG AFH mechanism. Not compatible with legacy devices. Not beneficial for broadcast, Piconet synchronization, park mode, sniff mode, etc. Not supporting mixed data and voice link (ACL+SCO). Extra gates, extra time, minimal benefits

6 MotionBandspeed doc.: IEEE /512r1 Slide 6 November, 2001 Making ‘Intelligent Use of Bad channels_ (Partition Sequence Generator)’ OPTIONAL Benefits Bluetooth SIG, IEEE and Industry
