2 Time Line Nov-April: Receive decisions from universities/ apply for finance (deadline 31 st May) April/May: Students make final 2 choices (Firm/Insurance) August: Results day! September: Freshers’ Week

3 Offers Offers can be Conditional or Unconditional –Certain grades or points required. Two offers may be accepted –“Firm” acceptance –“Insurance” acceptance

4 Apply for Student Finance It is recommended that you apply for student finance as early as possible. Applications open in February All online - www.gov.uk/student-finance Deadline for start of term payment: 31 st May 2014

5 Student Finance – the basics Two types of student loan available to first-time undergraduate students from the UK: Tuition Fee Loan – up to £9,000 to cover fees Maintenance Loan – towards everyday expenses. Amount varies according to your circumstances.

10 Support available at UCL National Scholarship Programme (NSP) - UCL Undergraduate Bursary Band 1A Students whose household income is £25,000 or less and who are living in UCL Student Residences* will each receive: An accommodation bursary of £2,500 A cash bursary of £1,000 Band 1B Students whose household income is £25,000 or less and who do not live in UCL Student Residences* will each receive: A cash bursary of £3,500 Band 2 Students whose household income is between £25,001 and £42,600 will each receive: A cash bursary of £1,000

11 Apply for Accommodation You should apply for accommodation as he/she has accepted their offer to study at UCL Deadline for applications – 31 st May 2014 (see www.ucl.ac.uk/accommodation) Acknowledgement of application and offers by email Accept offer online & pay deposit Complete online pre-arrival induction Moving In: Saturday 20 th - Sunday 21 st September 2014

12 Results Day UCL will confirm your place once you receive your results or on Confirmation day (14 th August 2013). What do you need to do? You met the conditions of your firm offer – nothing! You met the conditions of your insurance offer – nothing! UCAS Track has not updated – call faculty Missed conditions/ place declined – speak to teachers Deadline to meet conditions: 31 st August 2014

13 Transition Programme The Transition Programme supports all new students in adapting to university life, assisting first years with social, academic and personal issues. This is done through: Advice before you enrol Mentoring Scheme Study Skills Workshops Peer Assisted Learning General guidance and support

15 Support for Care Leavers Young people in care can face difficulties when applying to and entering higher education. UCL has been awarded the Buttle UK Quality Mark for Care Leavers in Higher Education. 365-day accommodation and accommodation in subsequent years of study Care Leaver Bursaries Further support from Dean of Students (Welfare)

16 Student Disability Services Student Disability Services gives support and advice to students facing disabling barriers to higher education. These include Specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyspraxia) Blindness or visual impairment Deafness or hearing impairment Mobility difficulties (e.g. wheelchair users & hypermobility) Mental health difficulties (e.g. depression, anxiety) Autistic spectrum conditions (e.g. Asperger syndrome) Long-term health issues (e.g. diabetes, arthritis, cancer)

17 Student Disability Services Student Disability Services provide a range of services to support students. Including: Orientation visits to UCL over summer/ start of term Term time drop-in sessions, Monday - Friday, 2pm-4pm Computer equipment & specialised software Small equipment loans, e.g., digital voice recorders Special examination arrangements SEnIT Suite Advice, guidance and assessments

Professional confidential advice Individual counselling Individual or group therapy Personal development workshops External referrals Library – self-help
