Activator/Opening Activator: Take a look at this video from an actual newscast. You will have to identify the main idea of the video shown. Ideas: Sweet Brown's Cold Pop Escape, Australian Penguin Thieves, Canadian Chip Bandits
Work Period Work Period: "Adding on to the main ideas" Today you will work in table groups to review what you learned in class on Wednesday with regard to main ideas. You can refer back to their Freyer Models. Now you will be provided with a main idea. You will have 5 minutes to use this main idea to complete a BCR with 3-5 more sentences of supporting details. When time is up, you will then switch papers clockwise. Now add DIFFERENT supporting details to the main idea your classmate just passed your way. AC students will have to then identify the blue, pink, and green in their BCRs.
Closing Closing: How is a main idea like a thread, house foundation, or soda bottle? Create a 1-2 sentence response showing the connection between main idea and the items above.
Homework Homework: Find a "text" in everyday life. This could be a conversation, note between friends, a news story, book excerpt, magazine article, etc. Write down the main idea of it to share in class tommorrow.
