“ Would you prefer to watch a movie or read a book?” We chose this question because we wanted to find out whether teenagers prefer movies or books. We asked 150 different students from years 8-10 at Albany Senior High School if they prefer to watch a movie or read a book. By having a wide range of data from opposite genders and different year groups, our results are more accurate than if we were to collect data from one class of year tens students.

What we have done; Walked around the grounds of Albany Senior High School, during lunch time collecting data from students years 8-10. How we have done it; From each year we asked 25 girls and 25 boys whether they prefer movies or books. With each year, we had a table showing the results of each students decision. E.g With these results we found the average of boys and girls and whether movies or books are more popular. Yr8. BoysYr8. Girls 1 Movie1 Book 2 Movie2 Book 3Book3 Movie 25 Movie

From the results we can see; as girls become older, the desire to watch movies decreases and reading books are increased. Our reason to this; as girls mature they enjoy reading a detailed book. girls become more involved in the story of a book. a book has a different kind of drama than a movie. there are many more romance books than there are movies.

From the boys results we cannot be completely sure whether being older or being younger has an affect on the choice of a book over a movie. Our reason; Boys are lazy Enjoy the movie graphics. Watching a movie is more relaxing Many more romantic and drama books than there are action or sci-fi.

We can see from the results that; Watching a movie outweighs reading a book. As girls become older, they prefer books. With boys, there is not a clear result. Improvements; Wider range of age groups; years 1 to 12, to give a more accurate result. Collect data from different schools; students may be influenced differently. State the question more clearly- include the genre of the movie and book.
