Today’s objective:
Use pen and ink techniques to create value in a still life composition. Unlike a pencil, ink cannot be applied with more pressure to get a darker value.
***Hand-in your sketch book at the end of class today for the final 1st quarter grading.
REMEMBER to bring in the b/w photograph of your image in a hat this Friday, 9/27!!!!

Pen and ink techniques provide the best way to achieve value from ink. In your sketch book draw four small thumbnails, mini-picture planes, 1 ½” square with a pencil. Use one of the pens provided to develop a different technique in each thumbnail. Use the handout as a guide.

3. Your goal:
1. Use the paper provided to draw a still life composition with your pencil. (remember to “find the ellipse” and show the change in scale for each object in the figure/ground relationship
2. Use a minimum of three pen techniques to create a consistent light source in your composition.
3. The entire picture plane must be covered with pen techniques to provide the value change.

Today’s objective is to work on your still life composition.
Begin to use ink techniques on the entire surface of the picture plane to create dark and light areas with your linear marks to show the viewer one constant light source.

8. Day 32 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book:
Use a pen and a minimum of three ink techniques in your pencil drawing to portray a consistent light source.

9. Day 33 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN
Write in your sketch book:
Finish your pen and ink still life composition with your signature on the front and your name and period number on the back.
Plus, present the printed photograph of your portrait in a hat to your teacher so that she can check that it is the correct size and can be used as a reference for your drawing.
