1. January 11  Explain in a paragraph who would play you in a movie and why?

2. January 14  If you had to be stuck for the rest of your life in a zoo, museum or library which would you choose and why? Paragraph minimum.

3. January 15  If you knew you were going to be banished to an igloo for the rest of your life, what five items would you take along? (assume you would get all the food, water, heaters and warm clothes you needed). Write a paragraph about what you’d take and why?

4. January 16  If you could create a hall of fame, what would you devote it to? Write a paragraph about what topic you think deserves a hall of fame. Then write two short biographies of your first two inductees.

5. January 17  Where you would most like to go on vacation? Imagine that money is no object. Write a paragraph explaining where you would like to go and why?

6. January 18  To freewrite, you must write without stopping for a designated period of time. While freewriting, don’t pause to think of the perfect word or to get your thoughts in order. Don’t even worry about spelling or punctuation. Just write whatever pops into your head. Freewrite for five minutes on the topic of love.  When you are finished, make sure your first and last name and block are in the top right hand corner of the January 14 Do Now. Staple them together in order and put them in the box please!

7. January 22  When you think of a boy, what do you think of? Age, qualities, personality….  Write a paragraph.

8. January 23  Who do you think Master Harold is and why? Write a paragraph.

9. January 24  Who has more power in a heterosexual relationship, the man or the woman?  In the 1950s, lesbian or gay couples still weren’t “out” in social settings.  Write a paragraph.

10. January 25  What makes a person impactful? Give examples of an impactful person. Write a paragraph.  Impactful is a life changing person.

11. January 28  Do you think Master Harold would be different if it were set in 2013? Write a paragraph.

12.  In one paragraph, write about a time when you found yourself at crossroads and had to choose between loyalty to one person and loyalty to a group. Who did you choose, and why. Did your choice show courage and loyalty? How?

13.  After reading a page, students will be guided to compose quality questions using the QUESTION MARK book mark as a guide.

14. February 4  Good morning!  What do you want to go “professional” in? (when you grow up, what would you like to do?)

15. February 5  In your folder, look at the Master Harold Essay 1 question. Write a thesis statement for it
