1 Book Reviews What are they and how do I write one?

2 Essential Question  What do I need to know and be able to do to write a well crafted book review?

3 What is a book review?  A description, critical analysis, and an evaluation of a book  It is not a retelling  It should focus on the book’s content

4 How do I write one?  Read and analyze your book  Use graphic organizer for notes  Create an outline/review of the book by summarizing the book

5 Intro Paragraph – The Necessities  State the name of the book, the author, the publisher, and year it was written  A strong statement of your opinion of the book and why you think this.

6 What else should I include in my review?  Examples from the book that back up your opinion  Discuss the genre – What is the genre? Does it fit well into the genre?  Describe a scene that sticks out in your mind

7 What else is included?  Provide background information on the author  Is the book a prequel or sequel to another  Give the book a rating – Would you recommend it to others and why.
