CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY PANELISTS Moderator: Prof. Dr. Pınar Mengüç, Director, CEEE, Özyeğin University, TR Speakers: Prof. Larry C. Bank, The City College of New York, USA Prof. Dr. Güzin Konuk, Dean of Faculty of Architecture, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, TR Prof. Ulrike Passe, Director, Center for Building Energy Research at Iowa State University, USA Cemil Yaman, Erke Tasarım, TR

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY THIS PANEL IS ABOUT FUTURE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATIONS! Present Different Views! Show Examples! Discuss Integration of Architecture and Engineering!

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY PROBLEM vs. STRATEGY BUILDING INNOVATION IS MUST! COHERENT THINKING AND IMPLEMENTATION ARE NEEDED BY ARCHITECTS and ENGINEERS. Is it a new concept?

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY INSPIRATIONS VITRIVIUS (Rome, 2000 years ago!) MIMAR SINAN (Istanbul, 500 years ago!)

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY Ten Book of Arcitecture, by Vitruvius Marcus Vitruvius Pollio (born c. 80–70 BC, died after c. 15 BC) was a Roman writer, architect and engineer, active in the 1st century BC. He is best known as the author of the multi-volume work De Architectura ("On Architecture") (Wikipedia) Credit: Albert A. Howard Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, 1914 HOW TO COMBINE A&E MORE EFFECTIVELY?

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY THE EDUCATION OF THE ARCHITECT The architect should be equipped with knowledge of many branches of study and varied kinds of learning.... Practice is the continuous and regular exercise of employment where manual work is done with any necessary material according to the design of a drawing. Theory, on the other hand, is the ability to demonstrate and explain the productions of dexterity on the principles of proportion. HOW TO COMBINE A&E MORE EFFECTIVELY?

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY THE EDUCATION OF THE ARCHITECT Therefore, that architects who have aimed at acquiring manual skill without scholarship have never been able to reach a position of authority to correspond to their pains, while those who relied only upon theories and scholarship were obviously hunting the shadow, not the substance. Those who have a thorough knowledge of both, like men armed at all points, have the sooner attained their object and carried authority with them. HOW TO COMBINE A&E MORE EFFECTIVELY?

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY THE EDUCATION OF THE ARCHITECT In all matters, but particularly in architecture, there are these two points:--the thing signified, and that which gives it its significance..... Let him be educated, skillful with the pencil, instructed in geometry, know much history, have followed the philosophers with attention, understand music, have some knowledge of medicine, know the opinions of the jurists, and be acquainted with astronomy and the theory of the heavens. HOW TO COMBINE A&E MORE EFFECTIVELY?

CENTER FOR ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY THE EDUCATION OF THE ARCHITECT Book I: The Site of a City, The City Walls, Prevailing Winds Book II: Physics of Elements Book VI: Climate as determining the style of the house Book VIII: How to find Water? Rain Water, Aqueducts and Cisterns Book X: Machines and Implements; Elements of Motion HOW TO COMBINE A&E MORE EFFECTIVELY?
