2 Liberty Current Events What is Robotics? You are about to learn about Libertys great Robotics teams. Youre probably wondering what robotics is. Well, it is a school activity for grades 4 – 8. In Robotics, you compete against other schools by making a Lego robot. The robot does these tasks and each task equals some points. The team with the most points wins. This takes place at a competition which was on Saturday, December 11, 2010. The Central Valley Robotics competition was the largest Lego Robotics event in the United States of America. It was noisy and you performed your tasks at a big table. Robotics started with building the required missions. The missions theme this year was Body Forward. These tasks included putting a stint inside a blood vessel, dispensing medication, pushing a button to activate the brain, grabbing a syringe, etc. These tasks had to be done under two and a half minutes. About every week, there was a robotics meeting at the coachs chosen locations. At each meeting, the team practiced tasks that the robot had to do. Lets see what the coach had to say. Robotics is a fun way for kids at Liberty to know each other better. It is a great way to develop skills and teamwork. Thanks Coach Dwayne DePry! At Central Valley Robotics, there were ninety four teams total! Liberty had three teams headed by coaches Platas, Krietemeyer, and DePry. The teams did a great job, and had a lot of fun. All three teams placed within the top 30. Robotics is not easy, but it is a lot of fun. Like coach Dwayne Depry said, robotics is a great way to develop teamwork. It also gets kids more motivated toward science. The reason of this is because only 12% of kids in America is interested in science. Maybe you will do one of these activities someday. By: Ethan DePry Boys Basketbal On Friday, December 10, 2010, the boys varsity basketball team played against Fort Washington. The boys had to work together in order to defeat the Patriots 49-19. The boys had to also individually play their personal best in order to be victorious. Like, Kameron Dickerson, who scored 22 points, and his brother Koby Dickerson, who had 8 steals. There were also some players that really encouraged their teammates, like Harrison Molter. Molter said, If we all work together well go undefeated. Good job guys! Loks like they re off to a great start to their season! By: Kayla Ikemiya Teacher Feature Mrs. Elliot At Liberty Elementary our librarian, Mrs. Elliot, contributes so much to our school. She has been in the library for 4 years. I like the library and the kids. I love how this job isnt boring, there is always something to do, she states. She grew up in New York, she has also lived in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, and five years in Fresno. That is so amazing!! She has been a great help to the school. She is kind, patient, generous, and always available to your needs. She is great finding, helping you on the computer, or even the other class projects. She has helped me in the past, now she can help you. So just stop by in th library, and get to know her!!! By: Megan Yamamoto
