5 Stages and Performing Spaces The word THEATRE is derived from the Greek word theatron, meaning seeing place, or a place to view a performance.

6 Stages and Performing Spaces The STAGE, which is often a raised platform, serves as a performing space for actors, and a focal point for the members of the audience.

7 Stages and Performing Spaces Todays stages are very different in design and construction from their historical ancestors, however, they still serve the same purpose: To provide a venue for a group of people (audience) to gather and view a performance.

8 Stages and Performing Spaces There are FOUR main kinds of performing spaces: 1.Theatre-in-the round 2.Thrust Stage 3.Proscenium Stage, and 4.Flexible or Found Space
