3. WHAT IS STAND DOWN? Stand Down is a military term for retreat, rest, and recovery. It brings homeless men and women into a secure enclosure. It is designed as an intervention. It brings a wide range of essential services to homeless veterans. SUPERVISOR STEVE LAVAGNINO

4. History of Stand Down The first Stand Down was organized in 1988 by Vietnam Veterans in San Diego. It is a community-based intervention program designed to help the nations homeless veterans. 6. The Need for Stand Down The VA estimates that roughly 67,495 Veterans are homeless on any given night. – Perhaps twice that number of veterans experience homelessness over the course of a year.
