2 India is a land of colors and different cultures. Men and women dressing style is different depending on what region they come from. People now have moved to western clothing but we will discuss the traditional dresses of India

3 The traditional dresses among the women are: 1. Sari 2. Salwar Kameez 3. Choli lehnga/Ghagra

4 A Sari is a rectangular piece of cloth with is 6 yards long. Sari comes in different colors, textures, design depending upon the region. A sari is considered the most elegant dress to wear in India.

5 A sari is wrapped around your waist. It has two part one is the pleats which come in the front. Second is the pallu which you can see some take it in the front and some at the back. There are different ways to tie a sari depending which region you are from.

8 Ghagra choli in Rajasthan Ghagra choli in Gujarat

9 Traditional dress in Rajasthan and Gujarat is Lehnga choli or ghagra choli. Cholis are bright in color and sometimes are embroidered they may be long covering the tummy or short choli which ends above the tummy. Lehenga/ Ghagras are long skirts which are generally ankle length and are tied on the waist.

10 A Salwar is a garment like a trouser which is tied around the waist A Kameez is a loose dress which may come above your knee or below the knees. A chunni is a long scarf which the ladies take when they wear a salwar kameez. You will see people in Punjab, Kashmir wearing a salwar kameez more.

12 The dresses worn in All over India are complimented with jewellery, shoes. The style in what the dresses are worn, what kind of jewelry they are wearing with what kind of shoes they symbolize which region they come from. The next slide shows different jewelry worn in different regions.

14 Traditionally your will not only see Females dresses but also male. You will see then dressed in kurta pajama or dhoti kurta. Many of then have a turban tied on their head making the dress different from different regions.
