2 July 2006 Abstract New radio allocation for 950 MHz band is currently discussed in Japan. 868 and 915 MHz channels used by IEEE are not available in Japan. Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

3 July 2006 Background The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is developing regulations for the new radio allocation of 950 MHz band in Japan. The first regulation for the passive tag systems had already been issued. Now Japanese committee is working on the second regulation for the LR-WPAN and active tag systems. Expected completion in Q4/2006. Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

4 Basic features (under discussion)
July 2006 Basic features (under discussion) Frequency band 952.0 – MHz Band width of each channel 200 kHz * n Transmission Power 10mW Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

5 Requirements for new regulation
July 2006 Requirements for new regulation The new regulation should co-exist with the existing passive tag systems. The regulation for the passive tags will not be changed for the new systems. Special requirements from the passive tag systems are Narrow band width, and Channel alignment with the passive tags. Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

6 Compatibility Issues to IEEE802.15.4
July 2006 Compatibility Issues to IEEE In order to meet the existing regulation for the passive tag systems, some changes will be needed. PHY Frequency allocation Modulation method MAC Minor changes to existing standard to support new PHY. Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.

7 July 2006 Summary Proposal to start the SG to make an amendment of IEEE for Japanese 950 MHz band. Shigeru Fukunaga, Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd.
