6 Hitachi Leads the Industry in Finger Vein Authentication Technology
3/31/2017 Hitachi Leads the Industry in Finger Vein Authentication Technology Light Finger Vein Pattern Authentication is leading Security Technology from Hitachi, Ltd. Using light, it scans one’s unique vein patterns to verify a person’s identity Vein Lens CCD Camera Implementation Examples Hitachi Security Benefits ATM Authentication Entrance Control Hitachi is also a leader in the industry in delivering what is called “finger vein authentication technology.” If you think about it, there are many ways to authenticate one’s identity and to access secure information. You can run a retina scan, you can enter pass codes, but finger vein authentication technology is the leading security technology from Hitachi, Ltd. Using light to actually scan ones unique vein patterns to identify a person’s identify. Scanning the internal living tissue, the internal living veins, of an individual, makes it essentially impossible for someone to clone or copy or essentially, attempt to breach security, because they can’t take your finger veins. (They can cut your finger off but it wouldn’t be living and breathing, so it wouldn’t work). So the security benefits we’d like to highlight here is that Hitachi’s finger vein technology is able to read the unique patterns of veins inside the finger. This type of biometric device really eliminates the needs for keys or cards. If the system is linked to distinctly read the internals of your finger utilizing light and a close coupling device camera lens which sees the vein there, it streamlines the entire process. In fact, a large bank in New York recently implemented this. Because the vein is internal in the body, distinguishing the vein pattern, as I mentioned earlier, is virtually impossible, and this makes counterfeiting essentially improbable. How do you counterfeit veins? Critical to the technology is the use of light which penetrate the finger, illuminates the unique vascular pattern, and eliminates the need to touch sensors directly. This is truly innovative and amazing! PC Log-In Hitachi's finger vein technology is able to read the unique pattern of veins inside the finger. Employing this type of biometric device eliminates the need for keys or cards. Because the vein is internal to the body, disguising the vein pattern is virtually impossible, making counterfeiting improbable. Critical to the technology is the use of light, which penetrates the finger, illuminating the unique vascular pattern, eliminating the need to touch sensors directly.

7 Hitachi Europe Invents µ-Chip, Pioneers Smart Tag Technology
3/31/2017 Hitachi Europe Invents µ-Chip, Pioneers Smart Tag Technology Achieving a pioneering milestone in smart tag technology, Hitachi’s µ-chip is the smallest and most advanced RFID chip that is innovatively designed to deliver authentication and tracking capabilities unlike any other device of its kind. Small enough to be embedded in paper, its advanced technology can be used in a wide range of vertical applications including finance, sales, supply-chain, and transportation A key example of Hitachi’s innovation, I’d like to point out a technology advancement made by Hitachi Europe. A few years ago, Hitachi invented the u-chip (*pronounced M-U Chip) and really pioneered the Smart Tag Technology. If you look at the size of the u-chip, which is a radio frequency identifier device, it basically looks like freckles on a finger. It’s interesting because it’s used in everything from conferences to concerts these days. Ticket holders, for example, instead of showing up with physical paper tickets, might instead hold a little card with a u-chip embedded so that they’re electronically scanned in. Everything is tracked via the u-chip, as opposed to actual physical tickets. The u-chip is small enough to be embedded in paper so you can imagine the endless usages and applications of a technology small enough to be embedded in paper. In fact, u-chip is being used in a wide range of vertical applications such as, finance, sales, supply chain, transportation, retail, etc. Again, another example of how powerful Hitachi’s R&D engine truly is. And, we believe this reassures customers that they are working and collaborating with one of the preeminent technology innovation companies out there in the industry today.

9 3/31/2017 Hitachi: Eco-Friendly in All Industries— not just Information Technology “Toyota Turns to Hitachi for Hybrid Motors” Hitachi Ltd. is eco-friendly to all industries, not just information technology. As I mentioned earlier, Toyota recently turned to Hitachi for hybrid motors. This was covered by the Green Car Congress, which covers energy, technology issues and policies for sustainable mobility - as its tagline say. It is also covered by the Korea Environment Institute and by Planet Arc. So, again, next time you’re sitting in a Lexus or Toyota, you can assume that the hybrid motors are very well supplied by Hitachi, Ltd. And this is comprising Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy drive system, which has received much attention from the media, celebrities, and various external constituencies in the marketplace. Our eco friendliness extends to all realms of the production of all of our various products and not just IT.

As in the AMS200, RAID-0 (no parity) is supported for FC drives only.

19 Adaptable Modular Storage
3/31/2017 Adaptable Modular Storage Key new features of the new WMS100, AMS200, and AMS500 include: No Copy-Back Sparing Drive Roaming LUN to LUN replication Volume Migration Cache Partition Manager RAID-6 NAS support Storage Navigator Modular RoHS Compliant Any LUN delete You will no longer have to “invalidate” and “reallocate” LUNs in order to change the size of LUNs in a RAID group. You are no longer limited to deleting the last LUN only. E.g.. You have 4 LUNs numbered 0-4, each 2GB in capacity. If you delete LUNs 1 and 4, you have a total of 4GB capacity made available. You can then create a single 4GB LUN or redefine the LUNs to smaller sizes. The stripes are not re-deployed within this new available space. No Copy Back sparing When there is a HDD failure in the RAID group, the failed drive writes to a spare drive. The spare becomes part of the RAID group. When the failed drive is replaced it is not necessary for the spare drive to write the data back to the replaced HDD. This means an overall improvement in controller overhead when a HDD failure occurs because the controller will no longer need to spend time writing data back to the HDD replacement. There will be the option in the GUI to write the data from the spare back to the replaced HDD. You can't use no copy back in the first 5 disks of the RK. HDD roaming You can build RAID groups vertically and horizontally. It also gives us the “no copy back” feature. LUN to LUN replication With SI and TC, you can replicate at a LUN level. You can use different RAID levels between the P-VOL & the S-VOL, regardless of whether there is a different number of drives in the P-VOL and the S-VOL. You can use any stripe size. However, the LUNs must be the same size. RAID 6 - provides High Availability to your customer Given a double HDD failure, the RAID group is reconstructed from 2 parity disks with no interruption and limited performance degradation R6 is also known as double parity or diagonal parity which incorporates 2 parity drives in case there is a double drive failure. Using denser disks of 300GB and 400GB capacities, rebuild times can be significantly greater. R5 rebuild times are noticeably longer. All AMS and WMS models support RAID 6. All standard RAID types are supported on the AMS and WMS platforms. A white paper has been requested from RSD on how R6 is implemented on the traditional modular arrays. We have also requested what mandatory requirements are in place or what restrictions exist.

20 Cache Partition Manager
3/31/2017 Cache Partition Manager Selectable segment size Customize the cache segment size for a user application Partitioned cache memory Decrease negative effect on performance between applications in a 'storage consolidated' system by dividing the cache memory Turn Cache Mirror “OFF” Increase cache efficiency over cache data redundancy Selectable stripe size To increase performance by customizing the disk access size Cache Partition Manager allows performance tuning through fine grain control of segment size and by turning off mirroring, which improves cache utilization.

21 Cache Utilization is Key to Application Performance
3/31/2017 Cache Utilization is Key to Application Performance Without Cache Partitioning Manager Data in cache memory is processed uniformly in units of 16KB regardless of lengths of data sent from a host Data with a length of 4KB or 8KB is scattered on the cache memory Cache-hit rate at the time of response to the read command is effectively lowered In a typical cache memory (no partitioning), data is spread throughout cache and inefficiently allocated. Cache can be fragmented while loading to or from RAID groups. There is no way for the cache to more efficiently treat a specific LUN, because it must accommodate all LUNs and all RAID stripes equally.

22 Cache Utilization is Key to Application Performance
3/31/2017 Cache Utilization is Key to Application Performance With Cache Partition Manager The area of the cache memory is divided into two (for this example), making the two portions fit two data lengths When handling a lot of “small” data with lengths shorter than 16KB, you can raise the cache hit rate and lower response time (read) by specifying data to be processed via partition 2 Contents of the cache memory are controlled more efficiently In a partitioned cache memory, the data is aligned more exactly between the specific RAID stripe and the cache. Thus the cache does not swap as often, and applications achieve better performance.

23 Cache Partition Manager Feature
3/31/2017 Cache Partition Manager Feature Modular storage systems typically have simple single block-size caching algorithm, resulting in inefficient use of cache and/or I/O Cache Partition Manager feature delivers cache environment that can be optimized to specific customer application requirements Less cache required for specific workloads Better hit rate for the same cache size Better optimization of I/O throughput for mixed workloads No need to mirror all writes where this does not benefit the application 4KB Database blocks in 4KB Cache pages 16KB File system blocks in 16KB Cache pages Cache Partition Manager is one of the key changes to Workgroup Modular Storage and Adaptable Modular Storage lines. No other modular product has the ability to manage cache at this level. RAID group stripe sizes can also be selected to allow tuning further of the array to deliver better performance without additional cost – Cache Partition Manager is included as a no-cost option for all Workgroup Modular Storage and Adaptable Modular Storage systems. Yet another example of Application Optimized Storage in action… 64KB Video data blocks in 64KB Cache pages

24 Overview of the Cache Partition Manager
3/31/2017 Overview of the Cache Partition Manager Cache is divided into partitions that can be exclusively used by assigned LUNs WMS100: 8 AMS200: 8 AMS500: 16 partitions (max. per system) Partition 0/1 are the master partitions (16KB only) Partition 2~n have selectable-size segments 4, 8, 16, 64, 256, & 512K Partition sizes are flexible (each partition has a certain minimum) Controller #1 Partition #0 16KB(Fix) Multi-purpose (Default) Partition #2 4KB For DB (Small size access) Partition #3 256KB Streaming (Exclusive Partition) Partition #5 16KB (Mirror OFF) For HPC Partition #8 1MB (Mirror OFF) Dual-write Controller #0 Dir #0 Dir #1 Mirror OFF Partition #1 16KB (Fix) Partition #6 64KB Partition #4 Partition #7 Cache Partition Manager assigns a LUN to a specific cache partition. The partition size can be modified in factors of 4,000 bytes such that a given block can fit more exactly into the partition, reducing the time necessary (milliseconds or less) to move data between cache and the disk drives.

The information volumes can then be split away from the host application and used for business continuance, testing, data mining applications, and non-disruptive system backups while your business continues to run at full capacity. The next few slides describe what Shadow Image is, what its uses and benefits are, and what services are available.

39 Point-in-time Copy for parallel processing
3/31/2017 ShadowImage Software - Instant Copies of Any Data Within a Single System Immediately available copies for concurrent use by other applications No host processing cycles required No dependence on operating system, file system, or database Customer configurable—no field engineer requirement RAID-protected copies Three full clone per volume are available on WMS/AMS systems Production Volume FullCopy of Production Volume Normal processing continues unaffected Point-in-time Copy for parallel processing No down time or impact to production application. “QuickSplit” command allows a copy to be available for read/write access immediately after QuickSplit command is entered. No impact to server processing, copy operation is completely handled within the storage system. EMC® requires a Customer Service Engineer to configure a pool of predefined Business Continuity Volumes. ( is this speculations or confirmed information?) All ShadowImage volumes are additionally RAID-protected. A disk failure or Automatic Error correction is handled completely transparently with no interruption. - All ShadowImage volumes are completely protected by RAID at all times, regardless of the RAID type. An HDD failure or I/O error is recovered automatically and transparently to any application processing. When a ShadowImage consistency group is split, all I/Os are help within the storage system. EMC holds the I/Os in the host, making it difficult to get absolute I/O consistency when multiple hosts are involved.
