3 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 3 UL resource unit UL resource units includes UL distributed resource unit (DRU) and UL localized resource unit (LRU). UL DRU and LRU are multiplexed in FDM fashion in each sub-frame.

4 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 4 UL resource unit definition The resource unit (RU) consists of 108 subcarriers, 18 subcarriers over 6 OFDM symbols in UL subframe. Each UL RU is divided into 3 tiles, which contains 6 contiguous subcarriers by 6 OFDM symbols. UL DRU includes 3 distributed tiles over the entire frequency band. UL LRU includes 3 adjacent tiles in frequency domain.

5 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 5 Localized RU and distributed RU multiplexing As shown in the figure, UL Control resource, Localized resource and Distributed resource occupy different logical resource of sub- frame. Control resource contains of resource for CQI, HARQ ACK, Ranging, etc.

6 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 6 UL Channelization Within a sub-frame, the whole bandwidth is divided into several clusters. Further, within a cluster, bandwidth is divided into multiple frequency bands, each of which is called as sub-zone. Localized resource is located in the LRU sub- zones; Distributed resource is located in the DRU sub-zones.

7 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 7 UL resource mapping rule When mapping of UL Localized resource and distributed resource, Localized resource is located in the LRU sub-zones; Distributed resource is located in the DRU sub- zones. Localized resource and Distributed resource occupy different frequency bands (sub-zones) within a sub- frame. Titles of DRU are located in DRU sub-zones of different clusters in sub-frame. LRU is formed from contiguous physical tiles.

8 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 8 UL subcarrier to resource unit mapping As shown in slide 9, uplink subcarrier to resource unit mapping is broken down into the following steps: 1. PRUs are mapped to permuted PRUs according to predefined permutation/mapping rule which are for distributed resource and localized resource within the entire frequency band. The permuted PRUs are divided into distributed resource and localized resource, and are renumbered. For the localized resource, PRU can be directly mapped to a permuted PRU. For distributed resource, multiple tiles in physical resource can be mapped to a permuted PRU according to predefined permutation/mapping rule for distributed resource. 2. Permuted PRUs of distributed resource and localized resource are arranged into multiple frequency partitions, e.g., FFR groups. Each frequency partition contains of multiple Permuted PRUs that are from distributed resource and/or localized resource. 3. In each frequency partition, its Permuted PRUs are mapped to the logical resource units.

10 10 FFR grouping For FFR grouping, logical resource of sub-frame can be divided into multiple FFR groups. Each FFR group is composed by multiple logical RUs which are Localized RUs (LRUs) and /or DRUs. The granularity unit of FFR group is logical RU. Resource of FFR groups are orthogonal each other in logical resource. After mapping in physical resource, physical resource of different FFR groups are still orthogonal each other.

Section 11.x.1.1 Distributed resource unit UL DRU includes 3 distributed tiles over the entire frequency band. Section 11.x.1.2 Localized resource unit UL LRU includes 3 adjacent tiles in frequency domain.

12 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 12 Proposed text Insert following text into SDD section 11 in IEEE 802.16m-08/003r1 Section 11.x.2 IEEE802.16m uplink channelization and resource mapping Section 11.x.2.1 Multiplexing of Distributed and Localized resource 802.16m should support multiplexing of Localized resource and Distributed resource in FDM fashion in each sub-frame of uplink. Localized resource unit (LRU) can be used for frequency-selective scheduling. LRU is formed from contiguous physical tiles. Distributed Resource unit (DRU) can be used for frequency diversity scheduling. DRU consists of tiles that are spread over sub-zones or entire bandwidth.

13 IEEE C802.16m-08/389r3 13 Proposed text Insert following text into SDD section 11 in IEEE 802.16m-08/003r1 Section 11.x.2.2 UL subcarrier to resource unit mapping Resource mapping in the uplink is performed in a frequency division multiplexing (FDM) manner. The process of downlink subcarrier to resource unit mapping is broken down into the following steps: 1. PRUs are mapped to permuted PRUs according to predefined permutation/mapping rule which are for distributed resource and localized resource within the entire frequency band. The permuted PRUs are divided into distributed resource and localized resource, and are renumbered. For the localized resource, PRU can be directly mapped to a permuted PRU. For distributed resource, multiple tiles in physical resource can be mapped to a permuted PRU according to predefined permutation/mapping rule for distributed resource. 2. Permuted PRUs of distributed resource and localized resource are arranged into multiple frequency partitions, e.g., FFR groups. Each frequency partition contains of multiple Permuted PRUs that are from distributed resource and/or localized resource. 3. In each frequency partition, its Permuted PRUs are mapped to the logical resource units.
