8 Purpose of Report Card The purpose of this report card is to provide parents, students and other teacher with information about a student that is either: a)Highly Aggregated score of a number of related but somewhat different factors that will makes interpretation or use of the information really difficult. We scoff at people when they say it doesnt mean anything. It means too many things. Sheesh. b)Broken out in so much detail and that it is overwhelming to the user and leaves them in a state of disarray.

16 Reporting Period Description This 9 weeks in reading we have studied both fiction and non-fiction. In fiction we discussed character, setting, sequence, and point of view. We also compared characters in stories. In non-fiction we learned how to find key details, how to use the different text features and compared two texts on the same topic. We are also learning how to ask and answer questions about both types of books. In Language we are learning about adjectives, verbs, word endings and multiple meaning words. In Foundational Skills we are still working on capitalizing our first letters in the sentence, segmenting words and building fluency. Writing we are forming opinions on everything from the weather to cafeteria lunches. We are also writing narratives from personal experiences. We use our Speaking and Listening regularly when we discuss books and topics. The students did an excellent job presenting their favorite author projects.

17 Individual Comment Taylor has done an outstanding job this reporting period. Independent work was very thorough and extremely well done. Taylor grasps basic ideas very quickly and sometimes moves on without doing the practice and repetition it takes to understand the idea thoroughly. I was very happy to see Taylor break that habit and really keep on top of the material.
