5 BCHLAs Mandate To improve the health of British Columbians through leadership that enhances collaborative action to promote physical activity, healthy eating and living smoke free. – –Advocacy – –Collaboration – –Capacity Building

6 Healthy Living: Targets for 2010 9 out of 10 British Columbians aged 12+ will not smoke 7 out of 10 British Columbians aged 12+ will eat at least 5 servings vegetables and fruits a day. 7 out of 10 British Columbians aged 12+ will be physically active. 7 out of 10 British Columbians aged 20-64 will be at a healthy weight.

9 The Project Goals To establish a network for people interested in Local Government employee health promotion To provide information and support for Municipalities and Regional Districts in British Columbia to promote healthy living for their employees

10 Project Activities A survey was sent out to all UBCM members in June to determine: what programs, initiatives and policies are currently in place successes, challenges and barriers the level of interest in forming a network of practitioners in employee health & wellness

11 Findings Over half of the respondents presently undertake employee health promotion activities 7 local governments are now considering implementing some activities for their employees 50 people have already expressed interest in being part of a civic employee health promotion network

14 CHPF - Fund Goals 1.To assist communities to build the skills and abilities required to address their own health promotion priorities. 2.To strengthen the collaboration of local government, health authorities, and non- governmental health-related organizations in protecting and promoting the health of their citizens; and 3.To support innovation, best practices development, information sharing, and networking related to health promotion.
