1 Promotion Standards for Enlisted Cadets Enlisted: E1-E9 : Promotions to any level will require that cadets have all assignments completed, passing JROTC, and No level 2 write ups or above; a normal promotion will require a 60 day wait limit between promotions unless meritoriously promoted. NOTE: Instructor may waive qualifications for promotion CDT-PVT- Promotion from cadet to PVT, end of 1 st 6 weeks; passing JROTC, no level 2 write ups (cadet may be accelerated to PVT if he/she can recite creed, and identify cadet enlisted rank, and has passed at least 2 uniform inspections). PVT – PFC : Promotion to PFC, end of 2 nd six weeks; same as above, cadet may be meritoriously promoted to PFC at end of 1 st six weeks, if they are the top LET 1 in their company. Selection will be based upon the top performer; selected by instructor. PFC-CPL: Corporal is the first rank as a Non commissioned officer; selected cadets are required to appear before a cadet review board for promotion, a set of study guide questions will be identified, cadet must: know enlisted/officer ranks, the JROTC Creed, not have any uniform grades outstanding, no write ups level 2 and above, passing JROTC; pass the promotion board with a 70% CPL- SGT: SGT : same will apply as Corporal, however board score must be at least 77%, and cadet must have at least a C average in JROTC; cadet will have minimally served on Flag Duty or been a part of a Color Guard Team, and march a squad successfully SGT-SSG: Same as required for SGT; however, cadet must earn an 80% on promotion board; cadet should currently be a part of a JROTC Team, Flag Detail, etc.; cadet must have a satisfactory rating on NCOER (Reviewed/approved by instructor (s) for E6 and above) SENIOR NCO E7-E9: SSG – SFC: SFC is the first rank of a senior Non commissioned officer, and a great achievement and will not go before a promotion panel. However, Cadets will be held to higher standards; You will be required to: Ensure you are passing all classes march a platoon successfully perform 15 count with rifle, acquire an 85% on promotion board, hold a B average in JROTC (85%) be a part of a JROTC Team Meet satisfactory standards on LDRSHIP (NCOER Review) SFC – MSG (E8): MSG normally will hold a Staff Position; Cadets will not be boarded, but will be required to: conduct basic commands with the Saber, march a platoon successfully, Familiar with carry the guidon procedures; hold a B or better average in JROTC, verify understanding of a military formation, and passing all other classes; maintain a satisfactory rating on Leadership Evaluation SFC-1SG (E8) This is relevant only to the position of Company 1SG; cadet will meet the same requirements as MSG, 1SG to CSM: There is only one CSM in the Battalion. CSM will be selected by the Army Instructor; must meet all criteria as an E8

2 Promotion Standards for Cadet Officer Promotions to Officer: There must be a valid slot for a cadet to advance to officer. Cadet may be advanced to officer at the discretion of the military instructors, but should have held at least the rank of SFC. 2LT-CPT Cadet must be able to march a Platoon, perform Sabre Drill, be a part of a JROTC Team either a member or a coach; be passing all classes and have at least a 90% average in JROTC; cadet will not be required to board, but will conduct a presentation assigned by instructor, and present to their assigned group, achieved a satisfactory rating on leadership assessment, and acquire at least a passing score of 80 or better on presentation CPT- MAJ/LTC Cadet will be selected by military instructor for this rank based upon the Leadership Assessment, and valid vacancy, normally these ranks will be held for company commanders, executive officers, or battalion commanders COL: Same as LTC, battalion must maintain a 150 count of JROTC cadets to be eligible for this rank (this is currently not an option for EDHS cadets due to the required enrollment) *Note all cadets must meet standards of promotion, i.e. no level 2 write ups, serve on a team if rank is above E7 and be considered a successful leader/staff member.
