ISCED mappings review
2013 preliminary ISCED mappings - 1st time mappings reviewed in depth by 3 international organisations;
Share of work between Eurostat and OECD (for common countries), consultation of UIS; Eurostat review for 7 EU non-OECD countries
All EU countries reviewed (but one - ongoing); LI and IS to be done by end of June
Countries' replies - received from the majority of them
Contacts with countries in summer weeks to finalise the mappings
Intention to put revised mappings on CIRCABC by September 2014

4. ISCED mappings review – cont.
Some general observations from the review:
mappings vary in length and (initial) quality
pathways between programmes not always easy to understand – information on entry requirements and access to higher level very important
not always clear if enrolments/graduates are reported in UOE
in some countries EU-LFS codes were missing (collaboration needed)
programmes 010 rarely reported
thank you for information on EQF levels (for all ISCED levels - very welcome)
sheet on formal qualifications outside UOE scope – filled in by 13 countries (sometimes maybe misunderstanding or no such qualifications exist)

Some detailed comments:
programmes numbering – re-arrangement suggested from 2014
orientation: if "academic"/"professional" used for tertiary education - national definitions needed; useful if ISCED 97 pre-vocational orientation of the programme mentioned in "Notes"
ISCED 97 – information on destination important (especially for level 5)
theoretical cumulative duration – from ISCED level 1 (not 0)
codes ISCED-P and ISCED-A not always the same!
information in “Notes” – useful (in particular for specific, atypical programmes)
