4 Is about developing classroom relationships, setting goals, reviewing our school values, sharing expectations and setting the scene for a productive year ahead.

5 ART WITH CHELSEA This term the Year 3/4s will be doing a unit on Botanical Art. The students will be creating mixed media relief artworks inspired by the fantasy flora seen in the Sci-Fi film Avatar. I will also be running an art club, in Term 2. MUSIC WITH ANDREW In Term One, Grade 3-4s focus in music will be on music appreciation and singing. Students will learn how to analyze music from different genres and recognize different styles, tempos, instruments and more. Grade 3 and 4 will also learn different tools and musical games to strengthen their singing voices, such as warm ups and breathing exercises.

6 SPORT WITH TOM In Physical Education this term, students in grades 3-6 will be focusing on teamwork and problem solving activities designed to get students working outside of their comfort zone and help to build on their social interaction skills. Students will also be under taking a unit on fitness as well as commencing the 25km running club. The motor skills that will be focused on in term 1 will be striking skills. The first 5 rounds of grade 5/6 summer sport will be played this term (with the final 4 rounds in term 4). Looking ahead to term 2: A quick look at what is coming up next term: Camp (Grade 4 and 5/6) Winter sports (Grade 5/6) Cross Country (Grade 4/5/6) Bike Ed (Grade 4)

9 Reading Writing Handwriting Spelling Vocabulary Speaking & Listening The program is designed to cater for individual student needs by differentiating student learning.

10 Number & Algebra Measurement Geometry Statistics & Probability Thinking Mathematically The program is designed to cater for individual student needs by differentiating student learning.

11 Weekly Homework will consist of: 10 Spelling words Practicing of number facts (times tables) 20mins of nightly reading From time to time other set tasks that may require work to be completed outside of the classroom.

12 Homework will be set and sent home on a Friday. It needs to be returned every Friday. Students will be given a red homework satchel that will contain their take home reader (if applicable), homework book, reading log and times table booklet. Reading log needs to be signed.

15 Hard Copies: All hard copy notes will go home in your childs navy blue communication satchel. This should be checked daily just in case and should always remain in your childs school bag. Grade Newsletters: Available on the blog and school website as well as a hard copy. Issued at the start of each term. Telephone: In the case of an emergency/incident/or your child is not well please call the school directly. How will we communicate with you?

16 Pack healthy lunches and playlunches Ensure water is the only drink in your childs water bottle. Ensure fruit break is a small piece of fruit – no containers where possible as students do continue to work. Encourage your child to become independent wherever possible for eg. homework tasks, packing their bag and ensuring they have everything they need for the school day such as their sunsmart hat.

17 Ensure all personal belongings are clearly labelled. Sunsmart hats are to be worn during Term 1, 2 & 4 Lunch orders are available online to order on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from the local milk bar. If you need to see the teacher please make an appointment.

18 What if my child is sick or shall be away from school? What if my child is late to school or needs to leave early? School Uniform How do I make a payment? ie. fees/excursions etc. Have you returned the Permission Forms pack? 2014 Camp – 2/3 Day Camp/Gr 4 Camp Will my child go swimming? When is Writers Festival What if my child needs to take medication?
