This powerpoint can be used to support the teaching of ‘Number’ targeted towards the month age band.

2. Teaching tips:
This can be used once the children are very familiar with number sentences. Read through the number problem and highlight the information needed (the numbers and addition or subtraction). Read through the number problem several times and get the children to solve it on their whiteboard. Which method are they going to choose to solve the problem? How do they know if it is addition r subtraction?

3. If Tom has 4 sweets and Sam has 6 sweets
If Tom has 4 sweets and Sam has 6 sweets. How many sweets do they have altogether? 4 + 6 = 10

4. Brent has 8 pens, he gives 2 pens away. How any pens does he have left?- 2 = 6

5. Kate has 3 books, Sam has 2 books and Bill has 1 book
Kate has 3 books, Sam has 2 books and Bill has 1 book. How many books do they have altogether? 3 + 2 + 1 = 6

6. Sarah has 10 apples, she gives 4 apples to he friend Kate
Sarah has 10 apples, she gives 4 apples to he friend Kate. How many apples has Sarah got left? 10 - 4 = 6

7. Ben has 8 cupcakes, he eats 3 of them
Ben has 8 cupcakes, he eats 3 of them. How many cupcakes has he got left? 8 - 3 = 5

8. If Tom has 6 toy cars and Rita has 3 toy cars, how many toy cars do they have altogether?+ 3 = 9

9. There were 7 pencils, 2 of them were broken. How many pencils were left?- 2 = 5
