(Jack is leaving for the States after a month's sightseeing stay in Beijing. His Chinese friend Lin will see him off at the airport. Now Lin is helping Jack with packing.) Tour guide:Don't hurry, Mrs. Smith. I think it's right there in your pocket. You needn't worry. It's going to be a very pleasant flight. Now ladies and gentlemen, would you please hold your boarding pass and follow me to Gate 5? Let's go.

7 Flying Backward and Forward
Exercises 9 (P.106) Flying Backward and Forward Air travel is an everyday experience these days because it is so fast. But frequent long-distance flying can be very tiring and the travelers begins to feel that his brain is in one country and his body is in another. In short, he hardly knows where he is. The tiredness after a long fight becomes stronger when we fly from west to east or vice verse because we cross time zones. Doctors say that travelers should go straight to bed on arrival after crossing a number of time zones. They should not work without a rest. However, airline pilots can hardly be affected. In fact they often live by their own watches,paying no attention to local time. They can even have breakfast at midnight if necessary. Businessman, however, are not so lucky. After a long journey, they must either go straight to an important meeting or to their bosses to give a report. Even so, there are still a lot of businessmen traveling by air.
