The Kindergarten Weekly News Welcome to Kindergarten 8/21/17-8/25-17w[p This Week’s Themes Colors, Names and Getting to Know you We have lots of fun activities planned this week to introduce color words, recognizing our names and getting to know each other and understanding our differences and what makes us special. Reading and Literature Story: The Little School Bus Comprehension: Characters in a story Amazing Words: first, second, third, forth, fifth, sixth Sight Words: I, am Phonological Awareness: Counting words in a sentence and initial sounds Conventions: Saying our names Genre: Animal Fantasy Letters: A, B, C, D, E Decodable Book: I Am We will be introducing how we rotate in centers, so in a few weeks we will be able to meet with small groups. Math This weeks Essential Question in Math: How can objects be classified? Objectives of lessons 5 to 8: Sorting by counting in categories, vertical columns, horizontal rows and linear configurations. : Writing and Handwriting We are continuing to work on recognizing and writing our names, journal writing, class books and thankful cards. Working on fine motor activities to strengthen tiny fingers, like cutting, working with playdough, working with linking cubes, etc . We are continuing to work on the correct pencil grip for students to use while coloring, drawing and writing. .

3 Homework Donation Station
We are sending home a homework packet today with your child. We will send a packet like this home each week on Monday’s in their red folder. This homework is to be completed at your convenience each week . This will help your child with the skills we are working on each week in class. The homework does NOT need to be returned to school, as it is not a grade for Kindergarteners. Helpful hints for helping your child at home this week *Compare and contrast any two objects around your home *Counting to 100, counting by 10’s, counting backwards from 20 to 1 *Pointing out letters while driving in the car *If your child has access to a computer or Ipad you can have them play learning games on starfall.com *Finding the letter in their name on the ABC chart we sent home last week Important Dates to Remember August 25-Early Release at 11:20 September 4th- No School Labor Day September 21st&22nd- No School Fall Break Please send in any paperwork you have not sent in such as: All About Me posters, permission slips for Facebook and any paper work from the office that you have not sent in yet.
