7 Time Travel Experiment
On a sheet of paper, write the following: 10 years ago: My name is _________________. I am _____________ years old. I live in _____________________________. I live with ________________________________. My favorite things to do are ________________________________. I feel ___________________________. 10 years in the future: I have accomplished the following things in the past ten years: ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________. I feel ____________________________________. Do the “10 year Expiriment” – you are going to introduce yourself as you were exactly 10 years ago today. For example a student named Jeremy is 15, 10 years ago he was five. He was living in Aberdeen with his parents and his sister. He just finished Kindergarten. He loves to play Animal Crossing and ride his bike. He feels happy. Then you get to introduce yourself as who you would like to be 10 years in the future. So Jeremy would introduce himself as being 25 years old. He recently graduated from college with a degree in English. He is engaged to a wonderful woman named Alisha and he will soon be starting a new job as a high school English Teacher. He lives in Baltimore with his fiancée and his dog, Ginger. He is really happy about where his life is headed.

8 What does school have to do with it?
Doing well in school is KEY to getting where you want to be.

9 What does school have to do with it?
Each day that you choose to blow off school, homework, class work, and/or studying, reduces the choices you can make about your future.

10 What does school have to do with it?
Your choices come with built in consequences. If you pick up (choose) one end of the stick you automatically get the other end too.

11 What does school have to do with it?
Where you end up 10 years from now is your choice.

12 Long-term goal exercise
Fold a sheet of paper into thirds and label like the example. Using hand drawn SYMBOLS ONLY, fill in the three columns for each life category. How will you overcome the challenges or obstacles? Using symbols only rather than words is supposed to utilize a different area of the brain.

13 Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal
For Example: -If you want to find a job, your short term goals may include filling out 10 applications this week and making 10 follow-up phone calls. -If you want to improve your grade in Biology, your short-term goals may include reviewing notes for ten minutes each evening.

14 5 Facts About Goal Setting
Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal 5 Facts About Goal Setting Specific, realistic goals work best. When it comes to making a change, the people who succeed are those who set realistic, specific goals. "I'm going to recycle all my plastic bottles, soda cans, and magazines" is a much more obtainable goal than "I'm going to do more for the environment." And that makes it easier to stick with.

15 5 Facts About Goal Setting
Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal 5 Facts About Goal Setting It takes time for a change to become an established habit. It will probably take a couple of months before any changes — like getting up half an hour early to exercise — become a routine part of your life. That's because your brain needs time to get used to the idea that this new thing you're doing is part of your regular routine.

16 5 Facts About Goal Setting
Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal 5 Facts About Goal Setting Repeating a goal makes it stick. Say your goal out loud each morning to remind yourself of what you want and what you're working for. (Writing it down works too.) Every time you remind yourself of your goal, you're training your brain to make it happen.

17 5 Facts About Goal Setting
Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal 5 Facts About Goal Setting Pleasing other people doesn't work. The key to making any change is to find the desire within yourself — you have to do it because you want it, not because a girlfriend, boyfriend, coach, parent, or someone else wants you to. It will be harder to stay on track and motivated if you're doing something out of obligation to another person.

18 5 Facts About Goal Setting
Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal 5 Facts About Goal Setting Roadblocks don't mean failure. Slip-ups are actually part of the learning process as you retrain your brain into a new way of thinking. It may take a few tries to reach a goal. But that's OK — it's normal to mess up or give up a few times when trying to make a change. So remember that everyone slips up and don't beat yourself up about it. Just remind yourself to get back on track.

19 Short-term goals are immediate small steps you can take towards your larger long-term goal
For each long-term goal you listed, write a corresponding short-term goal that you can start working on this week. List the steps needed to meet the goal.

20 When you start to put EFFORT into meeting your goals, you will surprise yourself!
