1 Specific Procedures

2 ICING

3 Zones – Section 3.1 Defending Neutral Attacking

4 Icing The Puck Criteria
1. Is the team Shooting the Puck ABOVE THE NUMERICAL STRENGTH or EQUAL IN STRENGTH 2. Team shoots the puck from their own half of the ice 3. Puck goes over the goal line without it being touched by anyone on the ice.

5 Attacking Neutral Defending
Icing Procedure Back official signals icing Back official follows up ice to cover for front official Front official blows whistle when puck crosses goal line Front official should follow the puck into the zone to make sure the call is correct Puck shot down ice Attacking Neutral Defending

6 What do I do after icing has been called?
Back official? Signals which side of the ice the face off will go Stays near the players to watch for scrums Front official? Checks to make sure there are no scrums Retrieves puck and goes to face off dot to conduct face off

7 Linesman Icing Procedures
Front linesman blows whistle and retrieves puck Linesman (L1) skates to the appropriate faceoff dot to conduct the face-off L1 Attacking Neutral Defending L1 L2 L2 L2 Player Benches Back linesman follows puck to blue line to confirm icing, while observing players behind the play and points to the appropriate faceoff dot Back linesman stands between benches if a line change occurs and both benches on the same side This is designed to provide more observation of benches and allow play to resume as soon as possible When safe to do so, back linesman assumes his position outside of the blueline If there is no line change, the Linesman should position himself in the neutral zone near the centre faceoff dot

8 ICING Tips Use verbal communication to enhance signals and communicate with your partner “ICE” “OK” Signal “washout” immediately if no icing, or as soon as nullified.

9 Puck Retrieval Procedure
If the play is stopped by the Referee: The linesman responsible for the end of the rink in which the puck is located when the play is stopped will normally retrieve the puck and conduct the face-off

10 The back linesman will monitor the other players on the ice as well as the benches
The linesman who is responsible for the end of the rink that the puck is located will pick up the puck The linesman who retrieved the puck will conduct the face-off

11 Puck Retrieval Procedure
If the play is stopped by the Linesman: The linesman that blows the whistle to stop play will normally retrieve the puck and conduct the face-off

12 The back linesman will monitor the other players on the ice as well as the benches
The linesman who made the off-side call at the blueline will retrieve the puck An off-side is called at the blue line and the puck is near the goal The linesman who retrieved the puck will conduct the face-off

13 Puck Retrieval Procedure
If the puck is near the official not blowing his whistle, he may retrieve the puck and conduct the face-off Shows good teamwork to switch roles Must be communicated clearly to avoid confusion

14 Face-Offs On all face-offs, the official dropping the puck will keep that end of the ice No slingshots

15 Off-Side Rule or Criteria
1. The attacking player precedes the puck into the attacking zone 2. The attacking player has both skates over the blue line prior to the puck crossing over it. When the puck is passed to a teammate who is offside in the attacking zone. The Linesman will: Exam questions 1. Blow the whistle 2. Point to the face off location

16 Delayed Off-Side Criteria
The attacking player precedes the puck into the attacking zone The defending team get possession of the puck or is able to play the puck The Linesman will: Raise their non-whistle hand above their head.

17 Delayed Off-Side Continued
The linesman will lower their arm to nullify the face-off violation if: The defending player passes or carries the puck into the neutral zone. 2. All the attacking players in the attacking zone clear the attacking zone by making contact with the blue line. Note: The attacking zone must be completely free of all attacking players before the off- side can be nullified.

18 Neutral Zone Face Offs – Where does face off go?
Offside pass or puck out of play: Face off comes back to defending side of the neutral zone Attacking Neutral Defending

19 Where should I be positioned to make offside calls as the front linesman?
When puck is coming into a zone? 2-3ft. Inside the zone That way if the you stop the puck, you won’t put a team offside When the puck is inside an attacking zone? 2-3 ft. outside the attacking zone That way if you deflect the puck back into the zone, you will cause the attacking team to be offside and they will still be forced to clear the zone

20 Offside Positioning – Coming into the attacking zone
2-3 ft. inside the blue line Once play has gone into attacking zone, exit zone (2-3 ft) outside attacking zone Attacking Neutral Defending

21 Offside Positioning – When play is in attacking zone
2-3 ft. outside the blue line Once play is back in neutral zone, either follow the play up ice or go back inside the blue line. Attacking Neutral Defending

22 Where should I be positioned as the back linesman?
When puck is going into my partner’s zone? When clear, follow the play up ice. Be in position to call an offside at your blue line if there is a turnover Always beat the players to your line! When the puck is inside an attacking zone? 5-6 ft. outside the attacking zone This way if you deflect the puck back into the zone, you will cause the attacking team to be offside and attacking players who are still in the attacking zone will have to clear. You will be in a position to get to a scrum at the net if there is a whistle

23 Back Official Positioning – Play is in attacking zone
5-6 ft. outside the blue line Be prepared to back off to cover your line Attacking Neutral Defending

24 What Do I Do When A Goal is Scored?

25 What is proper goal procedure?
Back official? Check for scrums. Get in front of scoring team’s players and opposing team’s bench Direct players away from opposing team’s bench Front official? Check for scrums. Get between scoring team’s players and opposition goalie Follow scoring team’s players to their bench Go get the puck (this should always happen last!) HEAD and TAIL of the Dragon

26 Defending Neutral Attacking
After Goal Scored Back official goes between players and benches HEAD of Dragon Front goes between goalie and players TAIL of Dragon Check for scrums! Defending Neutral Attacking

27 Defending Neutral Attacking
After Goal Scored (1) Scoring Bench Back official follows players and separates between opposing benches HEAD of Dragon Front official follows players to bench TAIL of Dragon *Note where the bench is Defending Neutral Attacking

28 Defending Neutral Attacking
After Goal Scored (2) Scoring Bench Back official follows players and seperates between opposing benches HEAD of Dragon Front official follows players to bench TAIL of Dragon *Note where the bench is Defending Neutral Attacking

29 After Goal Scored (3) Scoring Bench
Back official remains between benches until referee returns and players have cleared Moves to “happy bench” Front official retrieves puck Moves to opposite side of “happy bench”
