Both of these novels use tone and point of view effectively. I will show you how. The novels Beowulf and Grendel incorporate tone and point of view effectively. The novels Grendel, by John Gardner, and Beowulf, by Sheamus Heaney, both use a gritty tone to represent the Anglo-Saxon culture and effective 1st and 3rd person point of views to portray the mindset of their citizens.
