5 What is career guidance?
Career guidance is a purposeful learning opportunity which supports individuals and groups to consider and reconsider work, leisure and learning in the light of new information and experiences and to take both individual and collective action as a result of this. Hooley, Sultana and Thomsen, 2017

part of an effectively functioning education and employment system; and a safeguard against ineffective and imperfect systems.

11 Brokerage is essential
Education and employer links don’t just happen. They require prolonged effort. It is difficult for schools to manage employer liaison directly. The existence of a brokerage agency, brokerage professionals and a brokerage system are therefore critical.
