1 Welcome to Class

2 We are a class of 16 Year One and Two pupils.
Mrs Challinor teaches on Monday and Tuesday, and Mrs Witter teaches on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Mrs Simmons is our wonderful teaching assistant.

3 Spellings Spellings will be given out on a Friday during Phonics
time and will be related to the sounds/ words being taught in the coming week. These should then be practised either on the grid in the pupil’s spelling book or on paper as often as possible, ready for the test th following Friday. There will usually be 6 words given but there may be 2 additional unseen words included in the test which follow the same pattern – this checks to see if children can then apply their learning. For example spelling pattern – ‘igh’ given words light, bright, fight, high, might, bright extra words could be – night, sight.

4 Reading Reading bags should come into school each day and will
come home every afternoon. Please comment in the reading record whenever you listen to your child read at home as smileys are awarded for regular reading at home. Do not feel obliged to read a full book every night as little and often works well. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for changing their own reading books as required, but please let us know if this isn’t happening very often!

5 Your child will read in their guided reading group with a teacher once a week and will be listened to individually by Mrs Simmons at least once a week also. Please read and encourage your child to act on any comments made by staff in school. In addition each child also has a Class 4 reading buddy, who they will read with once a week in a friendly, informal and supportive way.

6 Homework Homework will be given out on a Tuesday in their homework book and should be handed in by the following Monday morning at the latest. Prompt return of homework is rewarded with smileys. Homework may be Literacy, Numeracy or Topic related, but it shouldn’t take longer than mins so please let us know if your child struggles with it.

7 P.E. P.E. kits should be in school all week and can stay in
for the half term. P.E. days are every Monday and Wednesday. Weather permitting we will be outside for P.E. every Wednesday so Joggers, a sweatshirt and trainers will be needed in the colder months.

8 Bookbags Bookbags should come into school with your child everyday. Please check in them regularly as there may be important letters, information etc inside. Please ensure book bags have a name on the outside of them. Teachers do not do a daily check inside bookbags for letters and payments, so please make your child aware if there is anything they need to hand in.

9 Class Rewards Good manners, effort and behaviour are encouraged in class and are constantly rewarded through … Red, Amber, green chart – we operate a traffic light system to help children understand what is appropriate / good behaviour Smileys – these are awarded regularly, for staying on green each day, arriving at school on time, good manners, good work and behaviour etc. Good to be green lucky dip – a name is picked at random from all those who have stayed on green that day and they get a treat from the goody tin.

10 Other useful stuff … Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to drink from throughout the school day. Please ensure uniform is named, especially jumpers and cardigans Snack money can be brought in on a Monday morning to buy a snack at playtime , in a named purse or wallet please. These are returned each Friday so that snack money can be replenished. Alternatively healthy snacks can be brought in from home. Sausage butties are available at Friday break time. These must be pre-ordered and paid for on Thursday morning p half £1-full

11 Communication I hope that your child will be very happy and settled in Class 2. However if you have any info you need to tell us, or any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
