12 What It Means to Be A Christian? (1a)
Who Is a Christian?

13 Christian! A derivative of Greek, Χριστιανός, (christianos)
“One who identifies himself as a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ.” A Christian is one who has obeyed the gospel based upon God’s plan of salvation and thus is a TRUE follower of Jesus. Christian!

14 Found 3 times in the NT Acts 11:26, first called Christians Acts 26:28, almost persuade me to be a Christian 1 Peter 4:16, if anyone suffers as a Christian Christian! 1 Peter 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. Acts 11:26 (NKJV) 26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Acts 26:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to become a Christian."

15 How does one become a Christian
Romans 10:17, Hearing Romans 10:9-10, Believe Acts 2:38, Repent Romans 10:9-10, Confess Acts 2:38, Gal. 3:27, Romans 6:3-4, Be Baptized

16 What it Means to be a Christian!
You are a new creation “Born again” 1 Peter 1:22-23 “Newness of life” Romans 6:3-4 A new creation, 2 Cor. 5:17 A new start in life – you are forgiven! 2 Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 1 Peter 1: Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, Romans 6:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

17 What it Means to be a Christian!
Ephesians 6:1-4 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: 3 "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." You are a child of God Sons of God, Gal. 3:26-28 Heirs, Romans 8:16-17 Privilege, 1 John 3:1 Responsibilities, Eph. 6:1-3 1 John 3:1 (NKJV) 1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Galatians 3:26-28 (NKJV) 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:16-17 (NKJV) 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

18 What it Means to be a Christian!
You belong to God “Slaves”, Rom. 6:16-19 You are not your own, 1 Cor. 6:19-20 Redeemed, Eph. 1:7, We live for Him, 1 Pet. 2:9-10 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; Romans 6:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

19 What it Means to be a Christian!
You live by faith “Trust, believing God”, Heb. 11:1, 6 Fundamental, Rom. 1:16, John 3:16 Foundational, 2 Peter. 1:5 Abraham, "It was accounted to him for righteousness”, Rom. 4:3, 5, 22; Gal. 3:6, Jas. 2:23, cf. Gen. 15:6 Hebrews 11:1-6 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Romans 1:16 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 2 Peter 1:5 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,

20 What it Means to be a Christian!
You live by faith It governs our life, Gal. 2:20, 2 Cor. 5:7 Not always easy – especially when it challenges our comfort level – 1 Cor. 4:1-2 Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

21 What it Means to be a Christian!
You are blessed Innumerable Peace with God, Eph. 2:14-15, Rom. 5:1, Phil. 4:7 Privilege of prayer, Heb. 4:15-16, 7:24-25, 1 John 2:1-2, 5:14-15 You have hope, Acts 24:15, 1 Peter 1:3, Col. 1:5, Heb. 6:19

22 What it Means to be a Christian!
You have responsibilities Along with our blessings Faithfulness, serving God, etc. Be different than the world Keep growing, 2 Peter 3:18, 2 Cor. 4:16, Rom. 12:2
