1 The AVID Expectations: Tutorials
Be a respectful, positive, contributing member to all aspects of tutorials: Filling out your green TRF together/completely working together as a group for the benefit of all students being respectful to the tutors taking quality Cornell notes without prompting Completing the reflection questions on the back of your TRF Using higher level questions as your focus for the tutorial (exception = math) Actively participating in tutorial discussion. No discussion by you as individual = 10 point deduction from tutorial score

2 The AVID Expectations: Your Binder
3 inch binder 5 core classes included: ELA, Science, Social Studies, Math, AVID. May include others if you choose. MUST keep all worksheets and notes placed in binder with most recent on top. Must have labeled dividers. Must have pencil pouch with 2 pencils/erasers, 2 blue/black pens, highlighter. Papers must be hole-punched. Nothing stored in pockets.

3 The AVID Expectations: Your Planner
Must record each core class for each day – list n/a or none if no work for that class. Record homework assignments, test dates (and other details about the tests), and long-term project dates. Will check each 2 week period. Can be paper planner or electronic. If you use a monthly calendar you still have to fill in all core classes for each day.

4 The AVID Expectations: Cornell Notes
Must take 5 pages of Cornell notes each week to be checked on block days. No more than 2 pages per class (example: 2 AVID, 2 AP Euro, 1 Math) Headings MUST be completed, including the dates. Points will be taken off for incomplete headings. Must include quality questions (topics can also be listed), quality notes, and quality summaries. NO WORKSHEETS MAY BE USED UNLESS APPROVED BY AVID TEACHER!

5 YOUR CHOICE brainstorming
With your table partners discuss the following questions: What career speakers would you like to hear from this year? What suggestions do you have for topics, lessons, content that would be helpful to cover this year in AVID (excluding teambuilding)? What ONE thing do you wish Mrs. O’Bryan would be more flexible about? Think carefully!
