1 The Sanctified Life B.A.S.I.C. Training

2 Blood-Washed Purity We’ve learned the facts of covenant life with God.
Let’s explore God’s plan for our behavior. We realize we have been washed clean by the blood of Jesus.

3 Hebrews 10:22 “…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

4 How Do We Remain Pure? We live in a filthy world.
We are surrounded by those who don’t love God. Our eyes see things that they shouldn’t. Our ears hear things that they shouldn’t. Our minds think things that they shouldn’t. How do we remain clean?

5 God wants Me To Be Clean 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
“It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God….”

6 What Is Sanctification?
Declared to be holy and set apart. Purified. Cleansed and made holy. “Sanctification is living every day in light of who we are in Christ. It is practiced purity – a challenge, especially in the culture in which we live.” (12ordinarymen.com)

7 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

8 Hebrews 10:28-29 “Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?” Sanctification is serious business!

9 I Must exercise self control
What does it mean to “possess my vessel” A lesson in self control Proverbs 25:28 -- Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. Everyone on this earth has some kind of self-control issue. No one is exempt.

10 Titus 2:11-12 But – we CAN just say no!
The world wants us to believe that we can’t abstain or practice self control. Titus 2:11-12 – “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age….”

11 Holy and honorable Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4:4, “…that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable…” Holy – set apart exclusively for God Honorable – deserving of the respect of men

12 Expelling my inner heathen
1 Thessalonians 4:5 – “not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God….” We must restrain our passionate lusts. We must refuse our inner heathen. We must recognize that with knowledge comes responsibility. There are no “unchanged” Christians.

13 1 thessalonians 4:7-8 “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.” This is the reason for our calling. God’s Holy Spirit lives within us to give us the ability to overcome.
