1 Le français avec Mme Tolpa
School year/ French 4H Le français avec Mme Tolpa

2 My expectations That students do their very best to achieve the French language goals set by the national, state and district initiatives. In order to best achieve these goals, students must: Practice the skills in and out of the classroom (with friends, technology, teacher and possibly parents) Understand that language is fluid and can’t be memorized Seek help when needed availability (5th, 6th, 7th , 10th period) Cell phones are not only for games and entertainment! There are all kinds of Apps to help with the language.

3 Especially when it comes to learning a language.

What resources are available for your French student? Students now need to store passwords somewhere that they can access. EDMODO Quia Quizlet Online Texbook Parent Portal Word Reference Mme Tolpa’s webpage

5 Academic Honesty District Policy
Violations of academic honesty include, but are not limited to, the following: • giving or copying exam questions or answers, homework, seminar assignments, lab reports, etc. • changing data and/or not collecting own data on a lab to get specific results • fabricating/falsifying information • plagiarism-presenting as original or independent work something that is not your own, including information or writing from computer sources. This includes translations for WL classes. • a pattern of absences on days when tests, deadlines or classroom auditions occur

6 Home Practice vs Homework:
EDMODO! Student should check daily for messages and assignments! Home Practice consists of work assigned such as: Reinforcing assignments Studying vocab and grammar Practicing a conversation Worksheets *** I do not grade practice work individually. I keep track of the work completion and quality by spot checking with a (+√ - )system which counts as a part of the formative assessment grade. The goal of such work is to reinforce classroom instruction. Homework consists of : Cultural Projects Writing compositions Reading Comprehension Listening comprehension **** These are forms of assessments that are graded as any formal assessments. It is important for students to refer to assessment rubrics to guide their best work on this “home” “work”. Some of this work may be collaborative in nature. *** This work usually has a deadline which must be met. At this level students need to learn to meet deadlines unless previous arrangements are made.

7 My grading policies My marking period grades are based on:
Presentational & Interpersonal Skills 30%= Speaking and Listening 30%= Reading and Writing 20%= vocab and grammar quizzes 10% = Culture and Projects 10% = Formative Assessments IMPORTANT: All writing and grammar assessments can be corrected and will earn an increase in grade of 10% of the value of the denominator. Ex: student earned an 26/30 on a quizzes with corrections he/she now earns a 29/30. HOWEVER….THE CORRECTIONS NEED TO BE COMPLETELY CORRECT!!!! *** I DO NOT GIVE RETESTS!

8 Here’s how you should assess the
value of this course . We are a public speaking course. We focus on interpersonal and presentational speaking. We teach global awareness through cultural practices, literature, history , and the value of community. We ask students to critically think as they compare cultures and language. We help student with their English by connecting French to their own language.

12 Good to know! Students who continue in the honors/AP program will reach fluency. Students are much better in the language than they think. This is proven on their scores when measured against other schools. Take the National French Exam as practice for the SAT test and content tests given in June. Most learning websites – There’s an ap for that! Edmodo/Quizlet/You tube Use your phone to help/ you can record yourself! Most graduates from our honors program have tested out of language or gone to levels 300 of studies. Many have come back with many stories of the benefits of their language studies in school and work. Start planning and writing all of your involvements for recommendations.
