This month, we are learning… Upcoming events In reading, we are learning our sight words. Please make sure you are practicing the word lists – popcorn, cookie, etc. Remember your child can earn a trophy at the end of all the sight word list. We are blending word parts and segmenting word parts. We are blending words parts to discover if a word is a real word or a nonsense word. (pet vs. jit) We are reading and retelling the stories we have read from the beginning to the end. In math, we are learning to add and subtract within 10. We are learning to recognize, write and understand numbers 11 – 20 as ten and some more. (ex. 15 is ten with 5 more) We are learning 3-D shapes and reviewing 2-D shapes. We are discussing how they are alike and different using number of sides and corners. We are solving addition and subtraction word problems. We are understanding <, >, and =, when counting 2 set of objects. We will count to 100. In writing, we are continuing to write simple stories using our sight words and letter sounds. We are leaving space between our words and using periods at the end of the sentences. We are drawing detailed pictures that match our stories. In science, we are learning about the changes in the weather and how things move. In social studies, we are learning about groundhogs, Valentine’s Day, dental health and presidents. February 3rd – Early Release Day dismiss at 11:55 a.m. February 8th – 100th day of school! February 10th – Paws ceremony at 1:00 February 14th – Valentine’s Day snack / valentines and boxes due February 16th – Club day February 17th and 24th – School store open February 20th – No school / President’s Day February 21st – Box tops contest ends February 23rd – Chick Fil-A Night Please make sure you are using Lexia Core 5, Dreambox and Raz kids with your children at home. These are great resources that the children enjoy doing on the computer or iPad. The apps are free. If you have forgotten our passwords that were sent home, let me know. Also remember you can check Class Dojo for your child’s daily behavior. Valentine Boxes Parents, I am sending home Valentine boxes that I bought for your child to decorate and return to school. Your child can make them into an animal, Superhero or decorate it however they wish to make it pretty. Please make sure your child’s name is on the box and leave the lid where it can be opened. Sometimes valentine treats won’t fit in the slot and we need to open the box. Thank you! Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday this month to … Gracie February 4th Sandy February 25th Valentine’s Day is February 14th! We will have a snack to celebrate Valentine’s Day and then pass out our valentine’s I am attaching a list of the children in our class for your child to make valentines for their friends. We will place them in my big Valentine Mailbox and pass them out on Valentine’s Day! Please contact me if you wish to send items for the snack. At Christmas, we had parents sending in items that I did not know they were sending and I had bought things as well. I certainly love and appreciate the help, but would like to know if you are sending in items. We had to send cupcakes home with the children because they had so much to eat. I didn’t think you wanted them to eat 3 cupcakes, so please let me know if you want to send in items. Thanks!
