1 Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation
Please take a yellow packet. Sign up to volunteer. Write your child’s name on the conference schedule.

2 Mrs. Jilizian Grew up in Glendale, CA
Attended Loyola Marymount University Started teaching in 1992 at a private school Came to Hugo Reid Elementary in 1997 (2nd, 3rd, kinder) Married and living in Montrose with two sons, Alex (17) and Jake (15) My husband is an /History Economics teacher at Hoover High School in Glendale Unified and the head men’s basketball coach at Glendale Community College.

3 Conferences Two per year-October and February Child attends in October
Parent only in February as needed Sign up before you leave. Write your child’s name. Minimum Days-12:35 dismissal

4 Volunteers TB test or waiver must turned into the office.
The more help we have, the more we can do. Shutterfly and Book Orders Need one or two volunteers daily. Please sign up. Prep projects, stuff folders, run papers, assist in lab/library, help with painting etc. At home-prep projects

5 Library-Every Tuesday
Once per week 10:00-10:30 In order to check out a new book, the book from the previous week must be returned. Behavior problems will not be allowed to check out a book. At least one volunteer needed

6 Schedule Please post the handout from the packet in a safe spot in your home. Wednesday-Early Release Day 1:20 Minimum Day-All kindergarteners arrive at 8:20 and dismiss at 12:35. NO LUNCH AT SCHOOL; SEND HEARTY SNACK. 7:45-8:15 Child care and breakfast available for purchase in the cafeteria. Common Core Days: 8:20-11:40 See district calendar for dates.

7 Arrival and Dismissal Arrival-Park and meet at the front gate. Say goodbye when teacher arrives. Dismissal-Parents must park and pick up your child in the classroom. Shining Stars- Students will use the bus. Other after school programs- Parent coordinates transportation and informs classroom teacher and primary office. Parents must inform after school program about minimum days, Common Core days and Wednesday schedule.

9 Attendance Absence-call the office, send a note, or student’s full name, date, reason for absence and room number to: Tardy-If the class is already inside, please take your child to the office to get a tardy pass before they come to class. Use unlocked door. Independent Study-If your child will be gone for 5 or more days, parents must pick up an independent study form from the office at least one week in advance of trip. All work must be returned the day the child arrives back at school.

10 Field Trips Two field trips per year-donations collected for cost of event and bus October 24th-Underwood Family Farm in Moorpark Animal and pumpkin patch tour and hay ride 2-3 volunteers needed per class- TB test or waiver required Spring Field Trip- TBA

11 Homework Packets will come home on Mondays and should be returned on Fridays in the red Hugo Reid folder. Please keep these in a special place so you do not lose your packet or red folder. Homework reinforces responsibility and reviews skills learned in class. Reading Record will be attached to the front of the packet. Children should be read to daily for at least 20 minutes. Sit with your child while doing homework. Check their work and keep your expectations high. All writing and math should be done neatly in PENCIL. Supplies needed at home: crayons, glue, scissors, pencil Provide additional help/practice as needed. All About Me Poster-practice sharing Sharing opportunities ; LETTER MUSEUM

Allergies and Sunscreen Snacks, Lunch and Water Bottles-Label Regular Size Backpacks- Label Sweaters and Jackets-Label Uniforms and Friday Free Dress Birthday Policy-no treats; invitations for all Book Orders (online) Parent Helper Needed Donations- Kleenex, Baby wipes, Seasonal Stickers School supplies provided No Toys or Jewelry

13 What is Common Core? District Website/Three Minute Video Math will be a combination of manipulatives, pencil paper, and technology enriched lessons. Benchmark tests in Reading and Math Practice keyboarding skills at home.
