5 How we assess your child
Your child will have a key worker which will be either the class teacher or nursery nurse. They will assess your child through observations on the Characteristics of Effective Learning and towards the 17 Early Learning Goals that each child is working to achieve by the end of the Reception year. These observations will be done during play and focused activities throughout the week. The Reception staff discuss the children's next steps daily and this is shared with parents/carers during the 1-1 meetings they will have each term. Reception practitioners continue with their learning journeys started in nursery.
