2 Level 3 Sport Welcome Back!!
Go and sit with someone you have not seen all summer. Find out what they have been doing during the summer break What are they most looking forward to this year at college?

5 Why is this important in sports leadership?
Forms of behaviour that respond to the needs and demands of individuals and organisations. Participants need to be supervised carefully. Why? Safely rules are followed and no risk or danger accrues. Why is this important in sports leadership?

10 Qualities of a Coach Knowledge of sports skills
Coaching sessions will include skill development so knowledge of the skills required is essential Techniques of developing these skills is needed. If delivering to advanced performers the knowledge of the leader must be greater than the participants to ensure progress but also respect

11 Knowledge of rules and laws
A leader must have good knowledge of these They must be a role model and follow them themselves They should be able to enforce the rules and pass on the knowledge of these so athletes can abide by them.

12 Understanding the mental needs of participants
Its important to develop the mind and body Physical activity can not only improve health but also improve mood Understand WHY people participate Meeting their needs and motivations

13 Understanding the Physical needs of participants
Different groups and individuals have different physical needs Sessions may need to be adapted for women or men and adults or children

Objectivity Objective judgement not affected by emotions Be fair, equal to all, no favouritism Used when….. Resolving conflict Working with different races / abilities Providing feedback Equal play demonstrations

21 Characteristics of a sports leader
Empathy Appreciate and understand the needs of others Sessions need to meet everyone's needs with person specific targets and goals achievable Differentiation during sessions Consistency Reliability and conformity of sessions Consistent in the behaviour and characteristics they demonstrate

22 Goal Focused Targets should be set Personal targets and targets for the participants as individuals or maybe as a group Short, medium and long term aims can be agreed Every session should have targets or aims

Illness or injuries Personal problems/issues Issues with individuals Issues with other leaders Disclosure of information may lead to certain procedures requiring to be followed e.g. child protection

Using the grid provided grade yourself out of 10 on the various characteristics of a sports leader Task B Think of a sports leader that has demonstrated some of the characteristics in a good way and provide examples Now think of a sports leader who has failed to demonstrate some of these characteristics and provide examples

There are lots of different jobs you may have to undertake as a sports leader. What are some of the jobs or roles you may need to fulfil?
