3 Our Mission In Year 5 we want our children to be happy and successful learner who enjoys learning, makes progress and achieves their full potential.

4 Rules We have school rules, and the children have devised some class rules.

Lots of Praise Extra play.

6 Behaviour We expect excellent behaviour in class no matter who is leading the learning. Playtime and lunchtime behaviour should be consistently good and respect shown to all members of the school community. Parents will be contacted if behaviour is a concern. There are sanctions for poor behaviour. Uniform

7 Expectations… we have high expectations for the children’s work, homework, attitude to learning and their behaviour. We want the children to reach their potential, and do their best through the year giving them an excellent foundation for year 6 (SATs year!!).

10 Visits and Visitors Leicester Space Centre. Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Doncaster Museum or Manchester Museum. Local allotments. We NEED your contributions.

11 Assessment Children will be assessed each half term in reading, Writing and maths. At the end of each term children will be tested using Pira (reading) and Puma (maths) tests. Children will also sit practice SAT’s tests before each half term holiday to help familiarise them with the layout of the national tests sat in year 6.

Times tables (Weekly) Topic based homework (Weekly) Online resources such as I am learning once logins have been sorted. Details of homework, spellings and times table can be found on the Bede homework page on the website.

13 Reading Books Every child has a reading book and reading record.
These should be taken home each evening and returned each morning. It is the responsibility of each child to remember to take home and bring back reading books. Reading record needs to be signed at home each time children read. Children DO NOT have to limit home reading to their reading book. They could read anything from a novel or a magazine to a letter or a menu. A range of reading material will help your child. Comprehension – don’t just accept that they have read, ask them questions to see if they understood the text. All pupils will receive a comprehension book mark this week with example questions that you could ask to check understanding.

14 Swimming & PE. P.E. Until February half term.
Year 5 goes swimming every Tuesday afternoon. Children will need a Swimming suit or Lycra trunks or shorts. Towel Swimming caps (optional) As we are swimming all afternoon on Tuesdays (1:00pm-3:10pm) this covers the 2 hours PE time each week. PE kits can be left in school in case we do any topic related PE. After February half term. Bring in clean kit on Monday, take home Friday. Trainers for outside. Pumps for inside.

15 Ukulele & Music lessons.
Every Wednesday, 1:00-2:00. Teacher - Miss Hill. Instruments are borrowed from Doncaster Music Service and it is the children's responsibility to look after their instrument. They will be taking them home once the forms have been signed and returned. Other instruments. Brought to school on the day of their lesson. Taken home that evening.

16 How parents can support us.
Arrange family holidays during school holidays, please. Children are collected from yard at 8:45am and dismissed from the yard at 3:20. Please bear with us on the dismissal procedures. I will be collecting children each morning and dismissing children every afternoon (except Thursday). If you have any questions or concerns your welcome to come see me then. Make sure your child is in school on time. Please support all homework and encourage daily reading.
