1 Parents’ Information Evening September 2015
Welcome to Year 1

2 Teachers in Year 1 are… Miss Martin and Mrs Durrington (1M)

3 Routines… Classroom doors – we ask that you leave
your child at the door when dropping off Break Times - thoughts on healthy snacks at break time? End of day routines

4 Lunch Time… Children in Year One are able to have a free
meal at school. If you would like to have school meals you can choose on the day. Menus are available to take home. Qualifying for free school meals.

5 Curriculum… The first half term will be very much Foundation Stage based, the children will be learning through play moving onto more formal based subject lessons as the year progresses. An example of a day in Year One… 8.45am 9.00am 10.20am 10.40am 11.00am 12.10pm 1.10pm 2.00pm 3.05pm 3.15pm Whistle and Register Phonics and English Assembly Break Maths Lunch Topic Time PE Story Time Home Time The children will be working in small groups and will be completing activities during each of the sessions.

7 Trips this year… Autumn Term 2 Christmas Pantomime coming into school
Spring 1 Space Centre Summer 1 or 2 Possibly the Botanical Gardens Safari Park or zoo

8 Homework… Your child will have a homework task to do every week. There will be a short English and Maths activity. The activities will support the children’s learning in the classroom. There will be opportunities for project work over the half term holidays. Homework will be handed out on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday (fortnightly).

9 Reading… Your child will have one or two reading books to share at home with you. Each child will have a reading diary, please fill this in every time you read at home. The children will each have their own log in for Bug Club which is an online library of various reading books. Your child will be allocated a list of books to read and respond to questions. On completion of each book they will earn virtual rewards. This is in addition to their reading book which will be sent home from school each week. Please note in their reading record when they have read.

10 Phonics… The children will be working towards sitting their National
phonics Screening Test at the end of May. There are several websites that enable your children to practise their phonics at home. Please ask if you have any questions.

11 PE and Outdoor Games… Each class have PE twice a week – we have PE on a Monday and Friday afternoon. Sometimes we go outside, please ensure there is outdoor clothing if the weather is not so nice! 12 Points to remember… PE kits – please ensure your child has their PE kit on the correct day with labelled clothes – sometimes we can get a bit mixed up! Letters or reply slips – please check your child’s book bag daily as letters and slips will be but in there. Please hand any slips back to a member of the team. Water bottles – please ensure your child’s name is written clearly on the bottle Please ensure books are inside book bags everyday.
