2 Bonsoir à tous! For the past 9 years, Velmead School has taken a group of Y6 children to France to experience French culture, learn about some French history, visit our twin school in Compiègne and, of course, put our French language skills to use. The trip is always a hugely enjoyable experience for both children and the adults involved.

3 Travel We will be using Reading and Wokingham Coaches to organise all our transport to France, and travel on an executive 53-seater coach. We will use the Channel Tunnel to reach France.

7 Accommodation We will be staying in the Hotel IBIS Budget in Senlis. Children will share ensuite rooms with one friend.

12 Compiègne In 2009 we established a link with the Collège Sevigné, a secondary school in Compiègne and the children are all writing to their French penpals. The children get the chance to meet their penfriends. They will also be able to practise their new language skills on their French counterparts and in turn help them with their newly acquired English skills. We will also visit the Château de Compiègne & the Armistice Museum.

24 Cité Europe This will be our final stop on the way back to England. The children will order their lunch in French and then visit the hypermarket. They will be invited to buy something to bring back for breakfast the following morning! They will also be able to buy any last minute gifts and souvenirs.

27 Identity Cards Identity cards will be issued to all students.
They will be in French and include essential contact numbers for Mrs Worth and Mr Collins. Pupils will carry these at ALL times.

28 Spending Money Please hand in 35 Euros in an envelope marked with your name and the words ‘Spending Money’. Please ensure that this money is made up of 5€ and 10€ notes ONLY.

… and don’t forget … waterproof coat sunscreen comfy practical shoes towel and toiletries packed lunch for the outward journey

31 Medication All medication must be clearly labelled with your name and dosage requirements. Mrs Holbrook will supervise medical needs during the trip, and group leaders will also be aware.

32 Passports & EHIC forms These need to be handed into school reception from Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th May No pupil will travel without these documents. Please check that they are date (and next of kin completed at the back).
