1 National Honor Society Information
Mrs. Ingram

2 Induction Ceremony Tuesday, November 15th***
Saint Pauls Middle Auditorium*** You may bring two guests There are 63 of you, if everyone brings two people, that is 126 guests, or 189 people total, not including current members. Space is limited. See me if you have concerns. You must dress in business-casual attire. No jeans! The dress code will be enforced, as this is a school activity.

3 GPA NHS: 3.0 unweighted Must maintain a 3.0 unweighted GPA for the duration of your time at SPHS. If your GPA falls below a 3.0, you will be placed on probation and have one semester to bring it up. Unweighted is different than weighted, but the two can be the same. Overall, you need to maintain ‘Bs’ in all of your classes to maintain a 3.0 average.

4 Hour Requirements Must have total of 12 community service hours by the end of Spring semester Community service logs are due no later than Friday, May 19th. Must have at least 4 group hours (activities done with/organized by National Honor Society). The rest are individual hours– completed on your own time. Double dipping will NOT be allowed; if you are doing an activity for another club/group, do not expect it to count for NHS. All hours MUST be approved by Mrs. Ingram– if you are unsure, ask!

5 Information for hours Hours CANNOT roll over from year to year
Hours should be between the months of August 29th, 2016 – May 19th, 2017. Summer hours will not be included– UNLESS earned by helping teachers set up rooms/working Open House. Volunteer hours CANNOT consist of any activity Monday through Friday (i.e. during a regular school day) from the hours between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Club participation (FFA/ROTC) does not count for NHS hours– i.e. PALS, stadium cleanups, etc. Hours must be earned in a minimum of 3 different activities.

6 Volunteer forms When you complete your hours, you must fill out a Volunteer form. Even if you volunteer at an NHS event, you MUST still fill out the form! Forms for NHS activities can be signed by Mrs. Ingram. Forms are located outside Mrs. Ingram’s room, on the wall. You must completely fill out the form, providing all necessary information. The adult in charge of the program must also provide a working phone number or for me to verify. Hours will be checked!

7 Attendance All meetings are mandatory!!!
We meet once a month… if you can’t make that commitment, you should not be in NHS. If you acquire 3 unexcused absences, you will receive a warning. On the 4th unexcused absence, your membership will be terminated. Absences that will be excused WITH A NOTE: 1. Doctor’s appointment – doctor’s note required 2. Game or performance for band, chorus etc. (Not practice!) - note from coach/teacher required If Mrs. Ingram does not receive a note unexcused absence! Notes should be turned in to Mrs. Ingram, as a copy for her records. ***Please note that ‘work’ is not an acceptable excuse. We meet once a month. If you cannot move your hours around/come in late once a month, then NHS is not going to be a priority to you.***

8 Disciplinary Regulations
Members must maintain good conduct. Any member caught cheating in any way will be dismissed from the club. This includes lying on hours forms. Any member who is suspended, in or out of school, for a level 2 violation (or higher) will lose membership immediately. Level 1 offenses will result in a warning and placement on probation.

9 probation Probation can result from the following:
Failure to pay dues Non-completion of hours Failure of a class (you have 1 quarter to bring the grade up). Conduct unbecoming of an NHS member GPA drops below a 3.0 unweighted You will have a specified amount of time to complete hours, or bring up grades/GPA. Failure to do so by specified time will result in a revocation of membership. Conduct-based probations will be maintained throughout the year. If there is a second instance, your membership will be terminated.

10 dues Dues are as follows:
$10 for juniors/seniors who do not want cords $20 for seniors who want cords Checks should be made out to Saint Pauls High School National Honor Society. All money is due NO LATER THAN Friday, December 2nd. If this date is an issue, please speak to me well in advance– do not wait until the last day!

11 Caveat Mrs. Ingram is first and foremost a TEACHER. Being the advisor for National Honor Society is secondary to my job as a teacher. Please do NOT interrupt my class for National Honor Society business. There will be ~85 members after November 15th. If all 85 come by during the day and take up a minute of my time, that’s an entire class period I have not been focusing on my students. Come see me BEFORE or AFTER school, or during class changes.
