Ephesians 4:25-29 25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. 26 BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity. 28 He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need. 29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

Ephesians 4:30-32 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it NOT AS THE WORD OF MEN, but for what it really is, THE WORD OF GOD, which also performs its work in you who believe.

Psalm 19 God revealed through the creation of God (1-6) God revealed through the Word of God (7-11) Our response to the revelation of God (12-14) Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)

Matthew 12:36 “But I tell you that every careless [useless] word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:37 “For by your words you will be justified [revealed to be right with God] and by your words you will be condemned [revealed not to be right with God].”

How to be different: Watch Your Mouth!
I. We are to speak words of truth (25) Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another. Laying aside falsehood Speak truth each one of you

Zechariah 8:14-16 14 "For thus says the Lord of hosts, 'Just as I purposed to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to wrath,' says the Lord of hosts, 'and I have not relented, 15 so I have again purposed in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear! 16 'These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates. 17 'Also let none of you devise evil in your heart against another, and do not love perjury; for all these are what I hate,' declares the Lord."

Ephesians 5:18-20 “18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father…”

Colossians 3:16-17 16 “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” 17 “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”

How to be different: Watch Your Mouth!
I. We are to speak words of edification (29) Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. No unwholesome word…

Matthew 12:33-35 “33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. 35 "he good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.”

The Wisdom of Solomon Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 21:23, “He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles.”

How to be different: Watch Your Mouth!
I. We are to speak words of edification (29) Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. No unwholesome word… But only such a word… 1. That seeks to build up (edify) 2. That seeks to bring grace

Luke 4:22 “And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, ‘Is this not Joseph's son?’”

Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”

Thought All our words are to be influenced by the grace of God in order to inspire others in the grace of God. (Ed Godfrey)

James 1:26 “If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.”

Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
