Any homework handed in late may not be marked and children will be asked to complete it in their lunch time.

5 ‘Children need to learn to read before they can read to learn.’
Reading Children should try to read everyday to an adult. The adult will need to comment and sign the reading record. You could also sign or put a sticker in to show they have read. The school will aim to listen to every child every two weeks and record this in their reading record. The school homework policy states that children in year 3 should read for at least 20 minutes between the set homework days. This could be a few pages every night etc. We will be encouraging the children to have a minimum of 3 reading comments a week. Reading records will be checked on a Monday and rewards will be in place to promote reading for pleasure and sharing a good book. We also encourage children to bring their book and reading record in daily and put it in the box in their classroom. The reading reward scheme children have been following will re-start in September with all children's read being taken back to zero. Reading buddies will be every Friday in school with a partner class. ‘Children need to learn to read before they can read to learn.’

6 Curriculum The new curriculum started in September It includes new topics and vocabulary the children will need to learn. The Maths curriculum will focus on broadening their mathematical understanding through problem solving and explanation. The English curriculum will still cover a variety of text types involving fiction, non-fiction and poetry, as well as extended writing.

7 Curriculum Topics over the year include: Romans – Roman Day
Chocolate and the Aztecs – Temper Temper Tudors – Knole House A variety of science topics including: forces and magnets, light, plants, animals and humans and rocks.

8 Expectations In Year 3 the expectation will still be high. We promote independence and children having the opportunities to become more responsible. Children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and be motivated to achieve their full potential and then challenged to exceed it. It is a big step from Year 2 to the juniors with the children having to adapt to many changes, such as: time tabling.
