2 Every culture celebrates new year in a different way …
We are going to learn about the Chinese New Year celebrations.

3 People who live in China and Chinese people in other parts of the world celebrate in similar ways.

4 What do you know about Chinese New Year?

5 As the Chinese New Year approaches every home is cleaned so that any bad luck is removed and the new year can be welcomed with a fresh start.

6 The decorations are usually a red colour which means good luck.

9 The words mean “Happy New Year” and Chinese people think about the five blessings of luck, food, long life, health and peace.

11 This is usually between late January and late February and explains why the Chinese New Year is celebrated on a different date each western year.

At the end of the Chinese New Year there is a lantern festival. People take lanterns out into the streets at night and people watch fireworks and dragon dancing and they play games.
