2 The School of Health Sciences (SHS) is a multi-site, complex and dynamic school formed through the amalgamation of the School of Health Professions and the School of Nursing and Midwifery in January 2014. The responsibility of providing overall co-ordination and decision making of the academic processes and management of the SHS infrastructure rests with; School Board of Studies School Executive Team School Management Team

3 School of Health Sciences Board of Study
To be responsible to the Academic Board for the academic direction of the School, covering teaching and research matters, including the implementation of university policies and strategies as appropriate To approve the constitution and membership of Examination Boards prior to final approval by Sub-Committee for Assessment To establish other committees (including a School Academic Scrutiny Committee) appropriate to the work of the School, subject to approval by Academic Board To ensure appropriate communication and reporting links with its reporting committees and school management structures To receive reports from its committees and working groups To undertake any other specific duties as requested by Academic Board or one of its committees

4 School Executive Team A committee comprised of the Head of School, Deputy Heads, and School Manager. Deputy Heads of School are senior managers with overarching responsibilities across the SHS who have specific responsibilities; Learning and Teaching, Quality Improvement and Enhancement, Operations and Planning, Practice Learning Partnerships, Research.

5 School Management Team
A committee comprised of the School Executive Team, plus the Academic Leads and Administrative and Technical managers in the SHS with responsibility for the central co- ordination and operational management of the School.

6 School of Health Sciences Infrastructure
The infrastructure of the SHS is designed to articulate the activities in the school and coordinate different sections e.g. Academic Programme Areas, School Office, Deputy Heads areas of responsibility and Centre for Health Research (see Appendix One). The overall responsibility is deferred to the Board of Studies for academic standards and the School Executive Team for strategic and resource issues. The School Management Team is responsible for informing strategic direction and ensuring the coordination of operational matters.

7 Centre for Health Research
The Centre for Health Research (CHR) will aim to increase the amount and quality of research which supports health and its determinants and health and social care, focusing on the biopsychosocial approach to wellbeing. In addition the CHR aims to; undertake research that engenders an inclusive understanding of the concept of health to influence policy and practice in a range of local, national and international settings improve the health, welfare and quality of life of individuals, families and communities through working collaboratively with institutions, professional bodies, clinicians, businesses and third sector partners, locally, nationally and globally to achieve this goal

8 Academic Programmes The central aim of the seven Academic Programmes will be to co-ordinate the academic standards and processes of courses within each programme to achieve high standards of health, social and professional education. Each Academic Programme will be responsible for courses or programmes that reflect the designated professional subject, disciplinary cognate area or level of study.

Return module reports to us by the stated deadline; Attend Examination Boards as required; Meet with students to hear first hand of their learning and teaching experiences; Submit annual reports; Comment on module changes affecting learning outcomes and assessment strategies; Contact us if you have any queries, suggestions, concerns.

17 What will we do. Ensure you have access to the course / module handbooks and assessment schedules; Send out any materials for review, which cannot be accessed electronically, in a timely fashion: Respond to any queries, concerns you have in a prompt manner; Make you welcome and look after you when you come to visit us.
