2. Oxygen – O Oxygen was named by a French Chemist named Antonie Lavoisier who incorrectly believed that oxygen was a necessity to form all acids. Oxygen’s origin is from the Greek word Oxygene which means acid former. * Oxygen is tasteless, odorless, and colorless. * Complex life forms need oxygen to stay alive because oxygen is used to release the energy stored in food.

3. Sulfur - S The element sulfur got it's name from the Latin word sulfur which means brimestone. * Pure Sulfur is an odorless, yellow solid. * Sulfur is a component of gun powder.

4. Selenium - Se Selenium was discovered by Jöns Jacob Berzelius. The origin of the name comes from the Greek word selene meaning moon in 1817. * There are twenty - one known isotopes of selenium. * The appearance is soft, similar to sulfur.

5. Tellurium - Te Tellurium was discovered in a compound form with calaverite by Franz-Joseph Muller von Reichenstein in 1782 in Nagyszeben, Romania. The name originates from the Greek word “tellus” meaning Earth. * It is the rarest element in the solid and stable form, with an occurrence of about 1-5 parts per billion. * When burnt in air, it emits a bluish green flame.

6. Polonium - Po Marie Curie discovered polonium and named it after Poland, the country of her birth. * Polonium is a radioactive element that occurs naturally in the environment at very low levels. * Mixed or alloyed with beryllium, polonium can be used as a portable neutron source.
