2. Gasunie is one of the biggest gas infrastructure companies in Europe. Within the company, we give safety the highest priority; it forms the basis of our license to operate. We abide by the strictest safety, health and environmental standards, both for our own employees and for our external contractors. Gasunie’s safety policy is thus characterised by a proactive approach which is designed to prevent accidents, incidents and hazardous situations.

3. At every Gasunie location, it must be clear in an instant what hazardous situations could arise and what emergency procedures must be put in place. The emergency exits must also be clearly visible. Good health and safety indicators can prevent unclear, annoying and even dangerous situations. Health and safety indicators (H&S indicators) make an important contribution to safe working practices and to welfare at work. Each employee (both Gasunie in-house staff and external contractors) must therefore be aware of H&S indicators and abide by them. 6. Additional information H&S indicators in practice At a location, warning, prohibition and instruction signs are often placed with or next to each other. Location sign The location sign is positioned at the entrance to the site and contains general information about the location. The H&S indicators shown here can also be found in other specific places in the location. Loading place sign This sign gives general information about the provisions that apply to tanker loading places. Specific risk signs can be seen on the pipelines used for loading.

7. Storage vats and tanks Storage tanks with a volume of more than 1 m³ are identified by: The name of the material Hazard symbols Pipelines All pipelines found at the location are identified by: the name of the material group colour hazard symbols direction of flow (where necessary) Hazardous substances Storage facilities and stacking sites for hazardous substances are indicated by the general H&S signage.

8. Gas bottles Gas bottles must be marked with: colour indicators UN number correct transport designator hazard symbols Emergency escape route markers The emergency escape route markers indicate the emergency escape routes which lead – from every position at the location – to a safe place or a central assembly point. Safety markers/tape A safety marker is an indicator, sign or cordoning off of specific parts of the installation, obstacles or zones.

9. Safety markers/tape Yellow/black tape markers indicate that risky activities are taking place within the cordoned area. Crossing these markers is prohibited, except for persons who must carry out work within the area and only after receiving express permission from the responsible supervisor within the area concerned Red/white tape markers indicate general danger. Crossing these markers is only permitted after receiving express permission from the responsible supervisor within the area concerned (the license- holder) Questions? Need more information?
