3 Payroll  Who Must Complete Payroll Information? All students who work in:  University paid positions  Pioneer Food Services  Federal Work Study Tutoring

4 Information Needed for Payroll  You will need to bring:  United States passport (original only, no copies) - OR -  photo identification (driver's license/student ID) - AND -  social security card or birth certificate (original only, no copies)

5 Information Needed for Payroll  You will need to complete 3 items: 1) Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate (IRS Form W-4) 2) Employment Eligibility Verification (INS Form I-9) 3) State Withholding Form  Important: To qualify for on-campus employment, a student must be registered for six or more semester credit hours

6 Payroll How much will I earn per hour?  Rate of pay varies  All jobs must pay at least OH Minimum wage of $8.10 hour

14 Student Employment Profile- What happens next?  Employment Supervisors can search for students through the online profiles  Supervisors are not notified of new applicants  You will need to contact them to make them aware of your application  Follow-up is important

16 How to contact Hiring Supervisors  Find out the department’s student employment supervisor  Present a professional image  Resume  Dress appropriately  Emails should be in professional format

17 How to contact Hiring Supervisors  Call the front desk of department where you want to work  My name is _______, I would like to speak with the person who hires student workers.  I have submitted an online job application on Jobs on Campus.  How many job vacancies exist?  What is the application process?  When do you expect to make a decision?  Based upon my qualifications I would like to be considered for this position.  Follow-up later with hiring supervisor

21 Tutoring- Federal Work Study Students must be Federal Work Study eligible  Federal Government pays 100% of wages through Federal Work Study  Students must complete FAFSA to determine eligibility  Contact Financial Aid about eligibility

22 Tutoring- Federal Work Study  Tutoring at Cedarville Elementary, Middle School and High School  Working one-on-one weekly with assigned student(s) in reading, math, and other subjects  Typically 30 minute sessions with a student  Average total number of hours per week: 3

23 Tutoring- Federal Work Study  After School Programs at Perrin Woods E.S. in Springfield  After school activities that integrate curriculum into activities  Working with a group of students  Requires greater independence and planning  Transportation can be arranged through Christian Ministries  Average total number of hours per week: 6-8

24 Tutoring- Federal Work Study  Majors: Education and other majors as well  H.S. needs all subject areas including math, language arts, science, physics, chemistry, calculus  Must be able to make semester long commitment  Students being tutored need continuity  If you quit, students will be without a tutor

27 Federal Work Study  Federal government provides Cedarville an allotted amount of money  7% of budget must be spent on community service work  Students must have financial need- determined through FAFSA

28 Federal Work Study- FAQ’s  Can I work without Federal Work Study?  Yes, University jobs or Pioneer Food Services are available to regular student workers.  Do I pay taxes on Federal Work Study?  Yes, you will pay state and federal withholding taxes.

29 Federal Work Study- FAQ’s  How will I get paid?  All students employed on campus are paid through direct deposit to student’s designated bank account.  The student decides how they spend their FWS wages to cover college related expenses.  Can I apply Federal Work Study to my student account?  Yes, you can designate your whole check or designated amount be transferred from each paycheck to your student account.

30 Federal Work Study- FAQ’s  What are the benefits to me?  FWS provides funding for jobs for students  The FAFSA allows you to list FWS wages to reduce amount of student income considered in Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculation.

31 Federal Work Study- FAQ’s  Are there campus jobs only open to Federal Work Study students?  Generally all campus based jobs are open to all students regardless of FWS status.  Tutoring positions at local public schools are the only FWS only positions.

32 Federal Work Study- FAQ’s  Are all campus jobs eligible for Federal Work study?  No, Resident Advisors and ministry related (religious) activities cannot be paid through FWS funds.

33 Federal Work Study FAQ’s  Is there a maximum amount I can earn through FWS?  Yes, most students are awarded a maximum of $2350 each year.  What happens when I reach the end of my FWS award amount?  When you have earned the maximum awarded amount of FWS wages for campus based jobs, we will switch your wages to be paid as a regular student worker.  Regular student workers have 100% of their wages paid by the University.

34 Federal Work Study FAQ’s  Will my job end when I reach the end of my FWS award amount?  No, you do not have to quit working at your campus based jobs if you earn the limit of your FWS award. The Financial Aid Office will change your wages to regular student work, and you can continue working at your job.  Tutors at the local public schools will need to contact the Financial Aid Office if they believe they have reached the maximum amount awarded in FWS.
