 The Big Interview Stephanie Hinz December 16, 2014 EDU 650 Dr. Jackie Kyger

Introduction  New York to Pennsylvania  Head Start background  Family Worker background  Farmer background  Second Grade Teacher

My Philosophy on Education  My philosophy of education is based on my want to teach young minds and to help influence them for the better.  I hope that my influence on the students that I have will give them a good start on what they are aiming for in their academic career.  What I give my students can be that extra push for them to want to succeed in the classroom, which in the future will turn into wanting to succeed in life, and in the work force.  How I will do it for my students will be based on what they need the most to keep them engaged and interested in the curriculum.  I believe in using DAP, and feel that it can make all the difference on a student understanding the material, as well as applying it to their lives.

Classroom Management Plan  The goal of the Management plan within my future classroom would include being able to have the classroom run at a controlled pace to allow enriched learning of all students.  I would also focus on keeping learning fun and interesting for all students through different forms of learning projects and medias.  I would utilize Developmentally Appropriate Practice when needed for the students who need it.  Make rules together  Three strikes and your out!  Consistency

Different School Models  Head Start Model  Vs.  Public School Model  How I will be able to better your public school  “Home visits may be a useful way for creating connections between home and school, and enhance parent involvement in their child’s education” (Meyer & Mann, 2006).  When a teacher is able to participate in home visits for a family, this can assist with creating bonds and connections with that family to assist in parent involvement and student education.

Effective Lesson Planning and Design  A way to include the student in their role of learning through lesson plans would be to allow children choices from what objectives that I will need to complete with them for the year. Example…  Always have a planned lesson plan with the needed materials, objectives and standards.  Always have student learning!

Assessment Matters  Assessing the students in class is a very important aspect of teaching a classroom.  Assessments are there so teachers are able to teach to the students what they need more concentration on as well as more practice in.  Assessments matter in the classroom for teachers to know how their students are doing, but also for the state to know how classes all across the country are doing.  Teachers are able to use different kinds of assessments with their students that will help them to improve their education and understanding of the world around them.  I see assessment playing the role in my classroom of helping my students to master educational content as well as understanding how to accept feedback and use it to better themselves and their grade in different subjects.  As stated by Rystad, "Provide feedback that moves learners forward" (Rystad, 2013).  By giving my students the positive feedback they need to improve on their grades and their understanding of the content this helps them to have a better understanding of the lesson.

Professional Learning Communities  “Schools that want to be a locus of continual learning must create an environment that emphasizes learning for students and staff" (Newman, 2013, pg. 1044).  It is crucial that high schools are able to provide continual learning for their students because it helps to prove to students that learning and staying on top of new ideas and innovations is the priority of our society.  It is also important for teachers to have continual learning because of the importance of staying on top of new teaching methods as well as ideas that are in today society that can help in the classroom.
